For this reason, we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away.
For if the message spoken through angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just retribution, 3 how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation, which began to be spoken through the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard, 4 with God bearing witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and distributions of the Holy Spirit according to his own will?
For it is not to angels that he subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.
But someone has testified somewhere, saying, “What is man that you remember him, or the son of man that you care for him? 7 You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor, [[and you have set him over the works of your hands,]][fn] 8 and subjected everything under his feet.”[fn]
For in subjecting [to him][fn] all things, he left nothing unsubjected to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him;
But we do see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
For it was fitting for him, for whom are all things and through whom are all things, having led many sons into glory, to perfect the pioneer of their salvation through sufferings. 11 For both the one who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified all come from one.[fn] For this reason, he does not feel shame to call them brothers, 12 saying, “I will declare your name to my brothers; in the midst of the assembly I will sing your praise.”[fn] 13 And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children whom God has given me.”[fn]
Therefore, since the children have shared in blood and flesh, he {also}[fn] likewise partook of the same, so that through death he might render powerless the one having the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might set free these, as many as were subject to slavery all their lives by the fear of death.
For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham.
Therefore, it was necessary for him to become like the brothers in every way, so that he might become merciful and a faithful high priest in relation to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
