Yahweh Is Holy
19 Then[fn] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to all the community of the Israelites,[fn] and say to them, ‘You[fn] must be holy, because I, Yahweh your[fn] God,am holy. 3 Each of you must revere your mother[fn] and your father,[fn] and you[fn] must keep my Sabbaths; Iam Yahweh your[fn] God. 4 You[fn] must not turn to idols, and you[fn] must not make for yourselves gods of cast metal; Iam Yahweh your[fn] God.
5 “ ‘And when you[fn] sacrifice a sacrifice of fellowship offerings to Yahweh, you[fn] must sacrifice it for your[fn] acceptance. 6 It must be eaten on the day of your[fn] sacrifice and the next day; but[fn] the remainder must be burned up in the fire by the third day. 7 And if it is indeed eaten on the third day, it is unclean meat; it shall not be regarded as accepted. 8 And the one who eats it shall bear his guilt, because he has profaned Yahweh’s holiness, and that person shall be cut off from his people.
Love Your Neighbor as Yourself
9 “ ‘And at your[fn] reaping the harvest of your[fn] land you[fn] must not finish reaping the edge of your[fn] field, and you[fn] must not glean the remnants of your[fn] harvest. 10 And you[fn] must not glean your[fn] vineyard, and you[fn] must not gather your[fn] vineyard’s fallen grapes; you[fn] must leave them behind for the needy and for the alien; Iam Yahweh your[fn] God.
11 “ ‘You[fn] shall not steal, and you[fn] shall not deceive, and you[fn] shall not lieto one another;[fn] 12 and you[fn] shall not swearfalsely[fn] in my name, and soone of you[fn] profane[fn] the name of your[fn] God; Iam Yahweh.
13 “ ‘You[fn] shall not exploit your[fn] neighbor, and you[fn] shall not robhim; a hired worker’s wage you[fn] shall notwithhold[fn] overnight until morning. 14 You[fn] shall not cursethe deaf, and you[fn] shall not put a stumbling blockbefore[fn] a blind person, but[fn] you[fn] shall revere your[fn] God; Iam Yahweh.
15 “ ‘You[fn] shall not do injustice in judgment;you[fn] shall not show partiality to the powerless;[fn] you[fn] shall not give preferenceto the powerful;[fn] you[fn] shall judge your[fn] fellow citizen with justice. 16 You[fn] shall not goabout with slander among your[fn] people;you[fn] shall not endanger your[fn] neighbor’s life;[fn] Iam Yahweh.
17 “ ‘You[fn] shall not hate your[fn] brother in your[fn] heart; you[fn] shall surely rebuke your[fn] fellow citizen, so that you[fn] do not incur sinalong with[fn] him. 18 You[fn] shall not seek vengeance, and you[fn] shall not harbor a grudgeagainst your[fn] fellow citizens;[fn] and you[fn] shall love your[fn] neighbor like yourself;[fn] Iam Yahweh.
You Shall Keep My Statutes
19 “ ‘You[fn] must keep my statutes:as for your[fn] domestic animals, you[fn] shall not cause two differing kinds to breed;as for your[fn] field, you[fn] shall not sow two differing kinds of seed; and, a garment of two differing kindsof woven material should not be worn on you.[fn]
20 “ ‘And when a man lies with a woman and there is an emission of semen and she is a female slave promised to a man, but[fn] she indeed has not been ransomed or freedom has not be given to her,there shall be an obligation to compensate; they shall not be put to death, because she has not been freed. 21 And he shall bring his guilt offering to Yahweh at the tent of assembly’s entrance: a ram for a guilt offering. 22 And the priest shall make atonement for him before[fn] Yahweh with the ram of the guilt offering for his sin that hecommitted,[fn] and so his sin that hecommitted[fn] shall be forgiven him.
23 “ ‘And when you[fn] have come into the land and you[fn] plant any tree for[fn] food,you[fn] shall regard its fruit as unharvestable;[fn]for three years it shall be forbidden for you;[fn] it shall not be eaten. 24 But[fn] in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, offerings of praise for Yahweh. 25 And in the fifth year you[fn] shall eat its fruit to increase its yield for you;[fn] Iam Yahweh your[fn] God.
26 “ ‘You[fn] must not eatanything with the blood; you[fn] shall not practice divination, nor shall you[fn] interpret signs. 27 You[fn] shall not round off the cornerhair of your[fn] head, and you[fn] shall not trim the corner of your[fn] beard. 28 And you[fn] shall not make a slash in your[fn] body for a dead person, nor shall you[fn] make on yourselves a tattoo’s mark; Iam Yahweh.
29 “ ‘You[fn] shall not profane your[fn] daughter by making her a prostitute,lest the land be prostituted and the land fill up with depravity.[fn] 30 You[fn] shall keep my Sabbaths, and you[fn] shall revere my sanctuary; Iam Yahweh.
31 “ ‘You[fn] shall not turn to the mediums and to the soothsayers; you[fn] shall not seekthem to become unclean with them; I am Yahweh your[fn] God.
32 “ ‘Before[fn] old age you[fn] shall get up, and you[fn] shall show respect for an old person; and you[fn] shall revere your God; Iam Yahweh.
33 “ ‘And when an alien dwells with you[fn] in your[fn] land, you[fn] shall not oppress him. 34 The alien who is dwelling with you[fn] shall be like a native among you,[fn] and you[fn] shall love him like yourself,[fn] because you[fn] were aliens in the land of Egypt; Iam Yahweh your[fn] God.
35 “ ‘You[fn] shall not commit injustice in regulation, in measurement, in weight, or[fn] volume. 36 You[fn] must have honest balances, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin; Iam Yahweh your[fn] God who brought you[fn] out from the land of Egypt.
37 “ ‘Thus you[fn] shall keep all my statutes and all my regulations, and you[fn] shall do them; Iam Yahweh.’ ”
