Psalm 124

A psalm for people going up to the temple to worship; of David.

If Yahweh had not been helping us—

All Israelites should repeat this—

2 If Yahweh had not been helping us

when our enemies attacked us,

3 then they would have destroyed us completely,

because they were so angry with us.

4 They would have overwhelmed us like a flood;

they would have swept over us like a raging river.

5 They would have destroyed us as completely as raging waters would have drowned us.

6 We praise Yahweh

because he did not let our enemies destroy us

as wild animals devour their prey.

7 We escaped from them like a bird that gets free from a hunter’s trap.

It was as though the trap broke, and, as for us, we went free!

8 Yahweh is the one who helps us;

he is the one who made everything that exists.
