AICNT 1PET Chapter 5

5[Therefore][fn] I exhort {the elders among you},[fn] as {fellow elder and witness}[fn] of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker of the glory that is to be revealed: 2Shepherd the flock of God among you, [overseeing][fn] not by compulsion but willingly [according to God];[fn] not for shameful gain, but eagerly; 3not as domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

5Likewise, you younger men, submit yourselves to the elders.

And all of you, [[submit to one another,]][fn] clothe yourselves with humility; for God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.[fn]

6Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time, 7casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

8Be sober-minded, be watchful. [[Because]][fn] Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking {someone to}[fn] devour.

9Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

10And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called {you}[fn] to his eternal glory in Christ [[Jesus]],[fn] he will perfect, establish, {strengthen, and lay the foundation}.[fn]

11To him be [[the glory and]][fn] the dominion forever [and ever].[fn] Amen.

12Through Silvanus, a faithful brother as I regard him, I have written briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand.

13{She who is}[fn] in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings, and so does Mark, my son.

14Greet one another with {a kiss of love}.[fn]

[Peace to all of you who are in Christ][fn] [[Jesus. Amen]].[fn]
