OET-RV ISA Chapter 31

OETISA 31 ©

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

31:1Yahweh’s protection of Yerushalem

31Those who go down to Egypt for help won’t end well.

They depend on horses and rely on chariots that are many,

≈ and on cavalry that are very numerous,

but they don’t look towards Yisrael’s holy one,

and they don’t request help from Yahweh.

2Yahweh is also wise and he brought calamity.

He hasn’t changed his mind since his messages

and he’ll take action against the place of evil-doers

and against those who do wicked things.

3Egypt is human and not a god.

≈ Their horses are physical and not spiritual

and Yahweh will stretch out his hand and the ones trying to help will stumble,

≈ and the ones being helped will be defeated,

→ and all of them will die together.

4Because this is what Yahweh has told me,

“As a lion growls and the young lion growls over its prey,

even if a large group of shepherds shout at it,

→ it’s not put off by their voices

≈ and it doesn’t cringe because of the commotion they make,

→ so too Commander-in-chief Yahweh will descend to go to war on Mt. Zion and its hill.

5Just like birds do, Commander-in-chief Yahweh will protect Yerushalem.

He’ll defend and rescue it—passing over it and saving it.”

6You Yisraeli people, return to the one that you’ve seriously rebelled against, 7because at that time, everyone will reject their gold and silver idols that you’ve all made with your disobedient hands.

8Then Assyria will fall from a sword (but not a human one),

≈ and a sword (not a human one) will destroy it.

It will flee away from that sword,

and its young men will become forced labour.

9Their security will pass away from terror,

and their officers will be dismayed from seeing the banner flying.

That’s the declaration from Yahweh who has fire in Tsiyyon (Zion)

≈ and a furnace in Yerushalem.
