OET-RV ISA Chapter 50

OETISA 50 ©

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

50Yahweh says this:

Where’s the divorce papers for your mother who I sent away?

Which of my creditors did I sell you all to,

because you were all sold because of your disobedience?

≈ And your mother was sent away because of your rebellion.

2Why did I come when there wasn’t anyone there?

≈ Why did I call when no one answered?

Was I unable to pay the ransom?

≈ Didn’t I have enough strength to rescue you?

Look, when I scold the ocean, it dries up.

≈ I can turn rivers into a wilderness

→ its fish will stink because they’ll die of thirst because there’s no water.

3I clothe the skies with darkness,

≈ and I place sackcloth as their covering.

50:4Yahweh’s obedient servant

The third servant song

4My master Yahweh, has given me a tongue that keeps learning

knowing how to help the weary with a message.

He wakes me in the morning—

wakes me up to listen to his teaching.

5My master Yahweh, has opened my ears.

I haven’t been rebellious

≈ and I haven’t turned back from what I was asked.

6I gave my back to those who struck me,[ref]

≈ and my cheeks to those who made them bare.

≈ I didn’t hide my face from insults and getting spat on

7but my master Yahweh will help me.

Therefore I’m not humiliated,

so I’ve made my face look determined like flint

because I know that I won’t be ashamed.

8The one who’ll declare me innocent is close by.[ref]

Who will bring charges against me? Let’s stand in court together.

≈ Who is my accuser? Let him approach me.

9Listen, my master Yahweh will help me.

Who is it who condemns me as guilty?

They’ll all wear out like clothes—the moths will eat them.

10How many of you strive to obey Yahweh,

listening to his servant’s words?

Who among you all walks in deep darkness without light?

Learn to trust Yahweh and to depend on your god.

11Look, all of you who kindle fires and carry flaming torches.

Walk in the light from your fire and from the kindling that you’re all burning.

That is what you’ll receive from my hand.

You’ll all lie down in pain.

50:6: Mat 26:67; Mrk 14:65.

50:8-9: Rom 8:33-34.
