OET-RV ISA Chapter 54

OETISA 54 ©

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

54:1Yahweh’s love for Yerushalem

54Sing happily you barren women who has never given birth.[ref]

Break into a cheery song and celebrate, you who’ve never been in labour,

because the desolate woman now has more children than the married woman did says Yahweh.

2Widen your tent and stretch your tent curtains further out without restraint.

Make your tent ropes longer and drive your stakes in deep

3because you’ll spread out both to the right and to the left,

and your descendants will conquer nations

and settle in cities that had become desolate.

4Don’t be afraid because you won’t be put to shame,

≈ and don’t be discouraged because you won’t be disgraced,

because you’ll forget the shame from your youth.

≈ You’ll no longer remember the disgrace from when you were made a widow

5because your husband is the one who made you

his name is Commander-in-chief Yahweh.

Yisrael’s holy one is your protector.

He’s called the god of the whole world.

6Yes, Yahweh has called you back

as if you were an abandoned wife with a wounded spirit,

≈ or a young wife who was rejected.

Your god says:

7I abandoned you for a litte while,

^ but now I’ll bring you back with great compassion.

8I kept away from you for a while in a flood of severe anger,

but with my permanent loyal commitment, I’ll have compassion on you.

Yahweh who paid the price for your freedom says:

9For me, this is like Noah’s flood—

just as I promised to never again to cover the earth,

so too I promise not to be angry at you or to rebuke you.

10Even if the mountains disappear and the hills shake,

my loyal commitment to you won’t disappear and my agreement for peace won’t be shaken,

says Yahweh, the one who has compassion for you.

54:11The new Yerushalem

11You city which is suffering like being battered in a storm

with no one to comfort you,

listen, I’ll rebuild you with turquoise stones,

≈ and place sapphires in your foundations.

12I’ll make your towers out of rubies

and your gates from beryl stones,

and all your walls from other precious stones.

13All your children will be followers of Yahweh,

and they’ll experience extended peace.

14You’ll be established with justice—far away from oppression.

You won’t be afraid of acts of terror because it won’t approach you.

15Listen, no one will attack you that I haven’t sent.

Anyone stirring up trouble against you will fail.

16Look, I created the craftsman who fans the charcoal fire,

and produces weapons as his work,

and it’s me who created a destroyer to cause destruction.

17No weapon that’s made to be used against you will succeed,

and those who speak out accusations against you will be condemned as guilty.

That’s the inheritance of Yahweh’s servants,

and I, Yahweh, will pronounce them as innocent.

54:1: Gal 4:27.
