17:8 Mosheh’s arms held high to defeat Amalek

8 Then the Amalek army came and attacked Yisrael (Israel) at Refidim, 9 and Mosheh (Moses) instructed Yehoshua (Joshua), “Choose men for us and go out and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I’ll be stationed on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.” 10 So Yehoshua prepared to fight Amalek as Mosheh had told him, and Mosheh, Aharon (Aaron), and Hur climbed up to the top of the hill. 11 And so it happened that when Mosheh raised his arm, then Yisrael would be winning, but when he lowered his arm, then Amalek would start winning. 12 However, Mosheh’s arms got tired, so they got a large stone and sat him on it, and Aharon and Hur stood on each side of him holding up his arms, and holding him steady in that position until the sun went down. 13 So this was how Yehoshua defeated Amalek and his army with their swords. 14 Then Yahweh told Mosheh, “Write this event in the book and read it aloud to Yehoshua, because I will certainly blot out the memory of Amalek from off the earth.”[ref] 15 Then Mosheh built an altar and he named it ‘Yahweh-nissi’ (which means ‘Yahweh is my banner’), 16 saying, “Because they battled against Yah’s throne, then Yahweh will battle against Amalek throughout the generations.”

14 And_ YHWH _he/it _said to Mosheh write this memorial in_book and_put_it in_the _ears _of Yəhōshūˊa if/because _that completely _(wipe _out) I _will _wipe _out DOM the _remembrance _of ˊAmālēq from_under the_heavens.

15 And_ Mosheh _he/it _built an _altar and_he/it _called his/its_name YHWH standard _of_is_my.

16 And_he/it _said if/because a _hand was_on the _throne _of Yah war to/for_YHWH with_ˊAmālēq from_generation generation.

2 Commander Yahweh says, ‘I’ve noticed what the Amalekim did to Yisrael when they came out of Mitsrayim (Egypt)—they attacked them as they passed by.[ref] 3 So go now and attack Amalek and destroy them completely without compassion, putting men and women, children and infants to death, along with their cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’ ”

4 So Sha’ul summoned the people to Telaim and counted them: two hundred thousand foot soldiers as well as ten thousand warriors from Yehudah (Judah). 5 Then Sha’ul took them to Amalek city, and they lay in wait in the valley. 6 Then he warned the Keynim, “You all need to move out from among the Amalekim, so that you all won’t be attacked along with them. That’s because you all were kind to our ancestors when they came out of Mitsrayim.” So the Keynim moved out from among the Amalekim.

7 Then Sha’ul slaughtered the Amalekim from Havilah to Shur (near Mitsrayim), 8 and they captured King Agag alive but killed everyone else with swords. 9 However, as well as sparing Agag, they took the best sheep and cattle
