JAIRUS

Leader of the synagogue, perhaps at Capernaum. Jairus sought Jesus among the crowds and petitioned him to come and heal his critically ill daughter. While delayed by another healing, Jesus learned that Jairus’s daughter had died. Encouraging Jairus not to fear but to believe, Jesus went on to the leader’s house, dismissed the mourners, and brought the child back to life (Mk 5:22, 35-42 OET MRK 5:22 · OET MRK 5:35–42; Lk 8:41, 49-55 OET LUK 8:41 · OET LUK 8:49–55).

22 Then unexpectedly, one of the religious leaders named Yair (Jairus) came out, and when he found Yeshua, he fell to his knees in front of him

35 While he was still speaking, messengers came from the religious leader’s house to tell Yair (Jairus), “Your daughter has died. Why bother the teacher any more?”
