UST NUM Chapter 12

12Previously, Moses had married a woman from the Cush people group. Now while the Israelites were in Hazeroth, Moses’ older sister Miriam and his older brother Aaron criticized Moses because he had married that woman from the Cush people group. 2They said, “Yahweh has not spoken only through Moses. He has spoken through us, too!” Yahweh heard what they said. 3As for Moses, he was much more humble than any other person on earth. 4Then, without warning, Yahweh told Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, “All three of you must go to the sacred tent.” So they went to the sacred tent. 5Then Yahweh was present in a special way in a cloud that looked like a column. The cloud was at the entrance to the sacred tent. Then Yahweh summoned Aaron and Miriam. They approached the cloud. 6Yahweh told them, “Listen to me! When people who truly speak for me are among you, I communicate with them by giving them dreams and visions. 7But that is not how I communicate with Moses, who serves me. He is trustworthy as he leads my people. 8I speak with him directly, and I do not make him try to figure out what I mean. Instead, I tell him plainly, and he sees how I choose to look when I am present in a special way. So, you should be afraid to criticize Moses, who serves me!” 9Yahweh was angry with Miriam and Aaron, and he left that place. 10The cloud too moved from the sacred tent. Immediately, Miriam had a skin disease that made her skin as white as snow. When Aaron looked at her, he immediately saw that she had a skin disease. 11Then Aaron said to Moses, “Sir, I ask you not to punish us for the wrong thing that we did so foolishly! 12I ask that you do not allow Miriam to be like a baby that has died and already partly decayed when its mother gives birth to it!” 13So Moses pleaded with Yahweh, “God, I beg you to cure her!” 14Yahweh replied, “Suppose that her father had shamed her by spitting in her face. That would shame her for seven days. Similarly, now she must stay outside the area where the Israelites set up their tents for seven days. After that, she can come back to her tent.” 15So Miriam stayed outside the area where the Israelites set up their tents for seven days. The Israelites stayed there until she came back to her tent. 16Then the Israelites left Hazeroth. They set up their tents in the desolate area near the city of Paran.
