2Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, 2“Every Israelites will camp at his own campsite with its own tribal flag. The Israelites will camp around the sacred tent at a distance. 3The army divisions following Judah’s tribal flag will camp on the eastern side of the sacred tent, toward the direction of the sunrise. Nahshon, the descendant of Amminadab, leads the tribe of Judah. 4From the tribe of Judah, list 74,600 men who could fight in battle. 5The tribe of Issachar shall camp beside the tribe of Judah. Nethanel, the descendant of Zuar, leads the tribe of Zuar. 6From the tribe of Issachar, list 54,400 men who could fight in battle.

7The tribe of Zebulun will camp beside the tribe of Judah. Eliab, the descendant of Helon, leads the tribe of Zebulun. 8From the tribe of Zebulun, list 57,400 men who could fight in battle. 9List a total of 186,400 men by their army divisions that were following Judah’s tribal flag. Whenever the Israelites move to a new location, these three tribes will lead the Israelite community.

10The army divisions following Reuben’s tribal flag will camp on the south side of the sacred tent. Elizur, the descendant of Shedeur, leads the tribe of Reuben. 11From the tribe of Reuben, list 46,500 men who could fight in battle. 12The tribe of Simeon will camp beside him. Shelumiel, the descendant of Zurishaddai, leads the tribe of Simeon. 13From the tribe of Simeon, list 59,300 men who could fight in battle. 14The tribe of Gad will camp beside the tribe of Reuben. Eliasaph, the descendant of Reuel, leads the tribe of Gad. 15From the tribe of Gad, list 45,650 men who could fight in battle. 16List a total of 151,450 men by their army divisions that were following Reuben’s tribal flag. Whenever the Israelites move to a new location, these three tribes will follow Judah’s tribal groups.

17Whenever the Israelites move to a new location, the tribe of Levi will travel in the middle of the other tribes, carrying the sacred tent. The Israelites will travel in the exact same order in which they camp, and each group will travel with its tribal flag.

18The army divisions following Ephraim’s tribal flag will camp on the west side of the sacred tent. Elishama, the descendant of Ammihud, leads the tribe of Ephraim. 19From the tribe of Ephraim, list 40,500 men who could fight in battle. 20The tribe of Manasseh will camp beside the tribe of Ephraim. Gamaliel, the descendant of Pedahzur, leads the tribe of Manasseh. 21From the tribe of Manasseh, list 32,200 men who could fight in battle. 22The tribe of Benjamin will camp beside Ephraim. Abidan, the descendant of Gideoni, leads the descendants of Benjamin. 23From the tribe of Benjamin, list 35,400 men who could fight in battle. 24List a total of 108,100 men by their army divisions that were following Ephraim’s tribal flag. Whenever the Israelites move to a new location, these tribes will follow the tribe of Levi.

25The army divisions following Dan’s tribal flag will camp on the north side of the sacred tent. Ahiezer, the descendant of Ammishaddai, leads the tribe of Dan. 26From the tribe of Dan, list 62,700 men who could fight in battle. 27The tribe of Asher will camp beside the tribe of Dan. Pagiel, the descendant of Okran, leads the tribe of Asher. 28From the tribe of Asher, list 41,500 men who could fight in battle. 29The tribe of Naphtali will camp beside Ephraim. Ahira, the descendant of Enan, leads the descendants of Naphtali. 30From the tribe of Naphtali, list 53,400 men who could fight in battle. 31List a total of 157,600 men following Dan’s tribal flag. Whenever the Israelites move to a new location, these tribes will journey by their tribal flags.”

32So, list these 12 Israelite tribes by their ancestral families. The total number of all those Moses counted in their camps by their army divisions are 603,550 men. 33However, Moses and Aaron did not count the people of the tribe of Levi, who were in the middle of the Israelites, because Yahweh ordered Moses not to count them. 34So the Israelites did exactly what Yahweh ordered Moses to tell them to do. Each tribe camped by its tribal flag. When the Israelites would move to a new location, each person stayed with his tribe, with those who were a part of his ancestral family.
