AICNT 2COR Chapter 8

2COR 8 ©

8Now we make known to you, brothers, the grace of God that has been given in the churches of Macedonia, 2that in a great trial of affliction, the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the wealth of their generosity. 3For according to their ability, I testify, and beyond their ability, they gave voluntarily, 4with much urging, requesting from us the grace and the fellowship {of the ministry}[fn] to the saints, 5and not as we had hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and to us by the will of God, 6so that we might encourage Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also complete among you this gracious work.

7But just as in everything you excel, in faith and word and knowledge and all eagerness and the love from {us in you},[fn] so that you may also excel in this grace.

8Not by command do I say this, but through the eagerness of others and testing the genuineness of your love; 9for you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that for your sake he became poor, being rich, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

10And in this matter I give my advice: for this is advantageous for you, who not only began to do, but also to desire from last year. 11Now also complete the doing, so that just as there was the eagerness to desire, so also there may be the completion from what you have.

12For if the eagerness is present, it is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. 13For it is not that there should be relief for others and hardship for you, but rather from equality; 14at the present time your abundance for their need, so that their abundance may also be for your need, in order that there may be equality, 15as it is written, “He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little.”[fn]

16But thanks be to God who put the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus, 17for he not only accepted the exhortation, but being more diligent, he went to you of his own accord.

18And we have sent with him the brother whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches, 19not only that, but also having been appointed by the churches as our traveling companion, together {with}[fn] this grace that is being ministered by us for the glory of the Lord and {our}[fn] eagerness, 20taking precaution in this, so that no one may find fault with us in this generous undertaking being administered by us; 21for we are intent on doing what is right, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

22We have sent with them our brother, whom we have tested many times in many ways as being diligent, but now much more diligent because of the great confidence he has in you. 23Whether for Titus, my partner and fellow worker for you; or for our brothers, apostles of the churches, the glory of Christ.

24Therefore, show the proof of your love and our boasting about you to them, in the presence of the churches.
