Song 135/A praise song

Psa 135:1–21

135:0A praise song

135Praise Yahweh—praise his name.

Praise him, you servants of Yahweh,

2who stand in the house of Yahweh

in the courtyards around our God’s house.

3Praise Yahweh, because he is good.

Sing praises to his name because it’s pleasant,

4because Yahweh has chosen Yakov for himself—

Yisra’el as his very own.

5You see, I myself know that Yahweh is great,

yes, our master is greater than all other gods.

6Yahweh does whatever he wants to do

in heaven and on the earth,

in the seas including all their deepest parts.

7He makes the clouds rise up from the end of the earth.

He makes lightning accompany the rain,

and brings the wind out of his storehouse.

8He struck Egypt’s firstborn males

both people and animals.[ref]

9He did miracles and amazing things in your country, Egypt,

against Far-oh (Pharaoh) and all his servants.

10He struck many nations

and killed powerful kings,

11Sihon king of the Amorites,

and Og king of Bashan,

and all the Canaanite kings.

12He gave their land as an inheritance—

an inheritance to his people Yisra’el.

13Your reputation lasts forever, Yahweh.

Your renown, Yahweh, endures from generation to generation

14because Yahweh judges his people,

and he’s compassionate towards his servants.

15The nations’ idols are silver and gold

the work of people’s hands.[ref]

16Those idols have mouths, but they can’t speak.

They have eyes, but they can’t see.

17They have ears, but they can’t hear,

and there’s no breath in their mouths.

18Those who make them will end up like them,

as will all those who put their trust in them.

19Descendants of Yisra’el, bless Yahweh.

Descendants of Aharon, bless Yahweh.

20Descendants of Levi, bless Yahweh.

All you who respect Yahweh, bless him.

21Blessed be Yahweh in Tsiyyon

he who lives in Yerushalem.

Praise Yahweh.

Exo. 11:

11Then Yahweh told Mosheh, “I’ll send one more plague to Far’oh and Egypt. After that he’ll let you all go from here. What’s more, when he does he’ll actually chase you all right out of here. 2Go and quietly tell the people that both men and women should ask their Egyptian neighbours for items of gold and silver.” 3Then Yahweh gave the Israelis favour in the eyes of the Egyptians. What’s more, Mosheh was very prestigious in the eyes of Far’oh’s servants and in the eyes of the Egyptian people.

4Then Mosheh told Far’oh, “This is what Yahweh says: Sometime around the middle of the night I’ll go out around Egypt, 5and every oldest son in Egypt will die, from the oldest son of Far’oh who sits on his throne, to the oldest son of the slave girl who lives behind the mill, as well as every oldest male offspring of your livestock. 6Then there’ll be loud wailing right across Egypt which will be nothing anything that’s ever happened before, and nothing like it will ever happen again. 7But amongst the Israelis, the dogs won’t growl at any person or animals so that you’ll know that Yahweh distinguishes between Egypt and Israel. 8Then all your servants will come down to me, and they’ll bow to me, pleading, ‘Go, you and all the people who follow you.’ And after that I’ll leave Egypt.” Then Mosheh left Far’oh in a fiery rage.

9Then Yahweh told Mosheh, “Far’oh refused to listen to you, so that I’m able to multiply my miracles in Egypt.” 10Mosheh and Aharon had done all those miracles in front of Far’oh but Yahweh had made Far’oh stubborn so he hadn’t let the Israelis leave his country.

Psa 115:4-8:

4The other nations’ gods are gold and silver idols

that people have made with their own hands.

5Those idols have mouths, but they can’t speak.

They have eyes, but they cant see.

6They have ears, but they can’t hear.

They have noses, but they can’t smell.

7They have hands, but can’t feel anything.

They have feet, but can’t walk.

They can’t make any sounds in their throats.

8The people who make them are just like them,

as is everyone who trusts them to help them.

Rev 9:20:

20However, the rest of humankind that hadn’t been killed by those plagues, didn’t repent of their actions and didn’t stop worshipping demons and idols made of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood—idols that can’t see, can’t hear, and can’t walk.[ref]
