135 Praise Yahweh—praise his name.

Praise him, you servants of Yahweh,

2 who stand in the house of Yahweh—

in the courtyards around our god’s house.

3 Praise Yahweh, because he is good.

≈ Sing praises to his name because it’s pleasant,

4 because Yahweh has chosen Yakov for himself—

Yisra’el as his very own.

5 You see, I myself know that Yahweh is great,

yes, our master is greater than all other gods.

6 Yahweh does whatever he wants to do

in heaven and on the earth,

in the seas, including all their deepest parts.

7 He makes the clouds rise up from the end of the earth.

He makes lightning accompany the rain,

and brings the wind out of his storehouse.

8 He struck Egypt’s firstborn males—

both people and animals.[ref]

9 He did miracles and amazing things in your country, Egypt,

against Far-oh (Pharaoh) and all his servants.

10 He struck many nations

and killed powerful kings,

11 Sihon king of the Amorites,

and Og king of Bashan,

and all the Canaanite kings.

12 He gave their land as an inheritance—

an inheritance to his people Yisra’el.

13 Your reputation lasts forever, Yahweh.

≈ Your renown, Yahweh, endures from generation to generation

14 because Yahweh judges his people,

and he’s compassionate towards his servants.

15 The nations’ idols are silver and gold—

the work of people’s hands.[ref]

16 Those idols have mouths, but they can’t speak.

≈ They have eyes, but they can’t see.

17 ≈ They have ears, but they can’t hear,

≈ and there’s no breath in their mouths.

18 Those who make them will end up like them,

as will all those who put their trust in them.

19 Descendants of Yisra’el, bless Yahweh.

Descendants of Aharon, bless Yahweh.

20 Descendants of Levi, bless Yahweh.

All you who respect Yahweh, bless him.

21 Blessed be Yahweh in Tsiyyon—

≈ he who lives in Yerushalem.
