The Second Book of Kings 16

16In the year of the 17th year of Pekah the son of Remaliah, Ahaz the son of Jotham, the king of Judah, became king. 2Ahaz was a son of 20 years when he became king, and he was king 16 years in Jerusalem. But he did not do what was upright in the eyes of Yahweh his God, like David his father. 3And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel. And he even made his son pass through in the fire, like the abominations of the nations, whom Yahweh had driven them out from the face of the sons of Israel. 4And he sacrificed, and he burned incense on the high places and on the hills and under every green tree.

5Then Rezin the king of Aram and Pekah the son of Remaliah the king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem for war. And they layed siege against Ahaz, but they were not able to fight. 6At that time, Rezin the king of Aram restored Elath to Aram, and he drove the Judahites out of Elath. And Arameans came to Elath, and they have lived there to this day.

7And Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-Pileser the king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son. Come up and deliver me from the palm of the king of Aram and from the palm of the king of Israel, the ones who have risen up against me.” 8And Ahaz took the silver and the gold that was found in the house of Yahweh and in the treasuries of the house of the king, and he sent a bribe to the king of Assyria. 9And the king of Assyria listened to him, and the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and he seized it, and he exiled it to Kir. And he killed Rezin.

10And King Ahaz went to meet Tiglath-Pileser the king of Assyria in Damascus, and he saw the altar that was in Damascus. And King Ahaz sent to Uriah the priest the likeness of the altar and its pattern for all its work. 11And Uriah the priest built the altar according to all that King Ahaz sent from Damascus. Thus Uriah the priest did until King Ahaz came from Damascus. 12And the king came from Damascus, and the king saw the altar. And the king drew near to the altar, and he offered up on it. 13And he made his burnt offering and his grain offering smoke, and he poured out his drink offering, and he sprinkled the blood of the peace offerings that belonged to him on the altar. 14And the altar of bronze that was to the face of Yahweh—and he brought forward from the face of the house, from between the altar and from between the house of Yahweh. And he gave it to the side of altar to the north. 15And King Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, saying, “On the large altar make the burnt offering of the morning and the grain offering of the evening and the burnt offering of the king and his grain offering and the burnt offering of all the people of the land and their grain offering and their drink offerings smoke. And you will sprinkle on it all the blood of the burnt offering and all blood of sacrifice. But the altar of bronze will be for me to seek.” 16And Uriah the priest did according to all that King Ahaz commanded.

17And King Ahaz cut off the borders of the stands, and he removed the wash bowl from on them. And he took down ‘The Sea’ from on the oxen of bronze that were beneath it, and he put it on the floor of stones. 18And he removed the covering of the Sabbath that they built in the house and the entrance of the king, the outer one, from the house of Yahweh, from the face of the king of Assyria. 19But the rest of the words of Ahaz that he did—are they not written on the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Judah? 20And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and he was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Hezekiah his son became king in his place.
