Being led by God’s spirit

Gal 5:16–26

5:16 Being led by God’s spirit

16I’ll tell you: allow yourselves to be led by the spirit and then your earthly desires won’t triumph. 17[ref]Because our earthly desires oppose the spirit, and the spirit opposes our earthly desires—they oppose each other so that’s why you end up doing things that you didn’t really want to do. 18But if you are being led by the spirit then you’re not trying to earn your way to God by obeying all of Mosheh’ rules.

19The actions that come from our earthly desires include: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20idolatry, sorcery, hostility, strife, jealousies, rages, selfish ambitions, arguing, divisions, 21envy, drunkenness, carousing, and other similar things which I’ve mentioned previously. And as I also said previously, the people that do these things won’t be inheriting God’s kingdom.

22But the end result of having God’s spirit is to show love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, 23gentleness, and self-controlthere’s no law of Mosheh against any of these! 24And for the followers of the messiah Yeshua, earthly desires need to be executed on a stake along with their passions and lusts. 25If we’re being led by God’s spirit in our living, then we should also be aligning our values by the spirit. 26We have to take care not to become conceited, not to provoke each other, and not to envy each other.

Rom 7:15-23:

15[ref]I don’t know what’s going on because I do what I don’t want to do and I end up doing what I hate. 16So if I do something that I didn’t want to do, then I’m agreeing with the Law that it’s good, 17and it’s no longer me that’s doing it, but the sin that’s in me. 18I’m aware that good isn’t in my physical body because I want to do good but I can’t. 19I don’t do the good that I want to do, but rather I do the evil that I don’t want to do, 20so if I’m doing what I don’t want to do, then it’s not me doing it, but it’s the sin in me that does it.

21As a result, I’ve discovered the principle that when I want to do good, actually there’s evil in me, 22because I’m happily accepting God’s Law on the inside, 23but I’m observing another law inside my body parts, fighting against my mind and keeping me imprisoned in the law of sin which is in my body parts.
