This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.
71 I find my safety in you, Yahweh.
Let me never be put to shame.
2 Rescue me and make me safe in your righteousness.
≈Turn your ear to me and save me.
3 Be a rock of safety for me, where I can always go.
≈You’ve given the command to save me because you’re my rock and my fortress.
4 Rescue me, my God, out of the control of wicked people—
≈out of the grasp of the unrighteous and cruel
5 because you’re my hope, Yahweh my master.
≈I’ve trusted in you ever since I was a child.
6 I’ve been supported by you from the womb.
≈It was you who took me out of my mother’s belly.
→My praise will be always about you.
7 I’m a marvel to many people.
You’re my secure shelter.
8 My mouth will be filled with praise for you,
filled all day with your honour.
9 Don’t throw me away in my time of old age.
≈Don’t abandon me when my strength fails,
10 because my enemies are talking about me.
≈Those who watch for my life are plotting together.
11 They say, “God’s abandoned him now.
Pursue him and capture him, because there’s no one to rescue him.”
12 Don’t stay far away from me, God.
13 Let those who’re hostile to my life be put to shame and destroyed.
Let those who seek my hurt be covered with rebuke and dishonour.
14 Meanwhile, I’ll always be expecting you to help me
and will praise you more and more.
15 I’ll tell about your righteousness and your salvation all day,
although I can’t count your goodness.
16 I will talk about the powerful actions by Yahweh my master.
≈I’ll make mention of your righteousness, yours alone.
17 God, you have taught me from my youth.
Even now I’m excited to tell about the wonderful things you’ve done.
18 Indeed, even when I’m old and gray, God, don’t abandon me,
as I’ve been declaring your strength to the next generation—
≈your power to everyone who is to come.
19 Your justice and fairness is unable to be challenged.
≈You who’ve done great things, God, who else is like you?
20 You who made me see many troubles, will revive us again,
≈and will bring us back up from the depths of the earth.
21 May you increase my honour.
22 I’ll also praise you for your trustworthiness with the harp, my God.
≈I’ll make music for you with the harp, holy one of Israel.
23 When I sing praise to you, my lips will shout for joy,
along with my soul which you have paid to have released.
24 ≈My tongue will also talk about your righteousness all day long,
→because those who sought to hurt me have been put to shame and are confused.
