AICNT ROM Chapter 14

ROM 14 ©

14Accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of quarreling over opinions.

2One person believes they may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. 3The one who eats must not despise the one who abstains, and the one who abstains must not judge the one who eats, for God has accepted them.

4Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To their own master they stand or fall; and they will stand, for {the Lord}[fn] is able to make them stand.

5Some judge one day to be better than another, while others judge all days to be alike. Let each be fully convinced in their own mind.

6The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord [[and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it]].[fn] [And][fn] The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since they give thanks to God; and the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God.

7For none of us lives for oneself, and none dies for oneself; 8If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9For to this end Christ died [[and rose]][fn] and lived again, so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

10Why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of {God},[fn] 11for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”[fn]

12So [therefore][fn] each of us will give an account of ourselves [to God].[fn]

13Therefore, let us no longer judge one another; but rather decide this, not to put a stumbling block or a trap[fn] before a brother.

14I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean.

15For if your brother is grieved because of food, you are no longer walking in love; do not destroy that one with your food, for whom Christ died. 16Therefore, do not let your good be blasphemed.

17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.[fn]

18Whoever serves Christ in {this way}[fn] is pleasing to God and approved by men.

19So then, let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual edification. 20Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things are indeed clean, but it is wrong for anyone to cause another to stumble by what they eat. 21It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything by which your brother stumbles, [or to be offended or made weak].[fn]

22{You have faith, [which][fn] you have before God, keep to yourself.}[fn] Blessed is the one who does not judge oneself in what one approves; 23But the one who doubts, if they eat, they are condemned, because it is not from faith; and everything that is not from faith is sin.

24[[Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept silent for eternal times, 25but now has been revealed through prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith—to all the nations made known, 26to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever. Amen.]][fn]
