Doing good despite suffering

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

Readers’ Version

Literal Version

2:18 Doing good despite suffering

18You who are house-servants should respectfully obey your masters—not only the good and gentle ones, but also the crooked ones, 19because God favours those who endure unjust hardships because of their godly consciences. 20What good would it do if you were enduring being beaten because of doing evil? But if you endure suffering for doing good, then God would be pleased with your behaviour 21because that’s what we’re called to because the messiah also suffered for all of you. He left an example for you, so that you all might follow in his steps: 22[ref]he didn’t do evil or say anything that wasn’t true, 23[ref]when he was insulted he didn’t retaliate, when he was persecuted he didn’t threaten but put his trust in the one who will judge everyone with true justice. 24[ref]He sacrificed his own body on the stake for our sins, so that when we die to sin we can live for righteousness. By his wounds, you all were healed. 25He did all that because you were like lost sheep, but now you all have returned to the shepherd and the overseer of your souls.

18The house_servants, being_subjected with all respect to_your masters, not only to_the good and gentle, but also to_the crooked.
19For/Because this a_favour is, if because_of conscience of_god, anyone is_bearing_under sorrows suffering unjustly.
20For/Because what credit is_it, if sinning and being_beaten you_all_will_be_enduring it?
But if doing_good and suffering you_all_will_be_enduring it, this is a_favour before god.
21For/Because you_all_were_called to this, because chosen_one/messiah also suffered for you_all, leaving an_example to_you_all, in_order_that you_all_may_follow_after after_the steps of_him, 22who neither did sin, nor was_ deceit _found in the mouth of_him, 23who being_insulted, was_ not _retaliating, suffering, was_ not _threatening, but was_giving_over him to_the one judging justly, 24who himself offered_up the sins of_us in the body of_him on the stake, in_order_that having_died to_ the _sins, we_may_live to_ the _righteousness, of_whose by_his wounds you_all_were_healed.
25For/Because you_all_were like sheep being_strayed, but you_all_were_returned now to the shepherd and overseer of_the souls of_you_all.
