καθίζω

Strong’s: G2523

Associated OET lemmas: καθίζω

Notes: There are certain technical problems involved in treating the series καθέζομαι, κάθημαι[a], καθίζω[a] (17.12: καθέζομαι / 17.12: κάθημαι / 17.12: καθίζω) and συγκάθημαι, συγκαθίζω[a] (17.13: συγκάθημαι / 17.13: συγκαθίζω), since there appears to be an alternation in meaning between (1) being in a position and (2) assuming such a position. It would be possible to set up two distinct meanings or to assume that the respective forms are essentially ambiguous. In general, however, the participial forms indicate a state of being, while the non-participial forms imply assuming a particular position of being seated. However, there are certain subtle differences in the tenses of the participial forms, and hence one cannot determine precisely what are the referential distinctions.
