2:14 Peter’s sermon

14So the twelve stood up and Peter told the crowd in a loud voice, “People of Yudea and everyone staying in Yerushalem. Listen to me so that I can explain this to you. 15This group is not drunk like you’re all thinking, because it’s still mid-morning, 16but you’re seeing what the prophet Yoel wrote about:

17[ref]God said, ‘In the last days I will pour out my spirit on all humanity—your children will tell of future events, your young men will see visions, and your old men will have dreams from God. 18I will pour my spirit out on my male and female slaves and they will tell of future events. 19I will do unusual things with the stars and planets, and also down on the earth below: blood, fire, and clouds of smoke. 20I’ll make the sun go dark and the moon go blood red. This will happen before the great victorious day of the coming of the master. 21Then everyone who relies on the name and authority of the master will be saved.’

22“Fellow Israelis, listen to this account: You yourselves know that God did miracles through Yeshua from Nazareth, and he fulfilled signs from the scriptures—in fact God did this right in front of you. 23[ref]Then as part of God’s plan and foreknowledge, this Yeshua was taken to the authorities by those who didn’t follow their own laws, and you all killed him by having him executed on a pole. 24[ref]But God released him from the agonies of death and brought him back to life—death couldn’t restrain him. 25[ref]As David wrote,

‘I foresaw the master always being in front of me. I refuse to be afraid because he’s there on my right.

26Because of that, I was happy and spoke out my praises. My whole body lives in anticipation 27because you will never abandon my soul in Hades, nor will you allow the godly one to decay. 28You showed me the roads to life. You fill me with gladness because of your presence.’

29“Fellow Israelis, we can tell you all with confidence that our patriarch David both died and was buried, and his tomb is still here with us today. 30[ref]So because he was a prophet, and knowing that God has promised him to seat one of his descendants on his throne, 31he was foretelling the resurrection of the messiah who was neitherabandoned in Hades nor did his body decay.’ 32Then God raised this Yeshua back to life and we’re all witnesses of that. 33Now he’s sitting at God’s right hand, and having received the promise of the holy spirit from the father, he poured this out which you are all seeing and hearing today. 34[ref]You see, David never went up to the heavens, but he himself said,

‘The master said to my master: Sit down at my right

35until I defeat your enemies.’

36“So let all Israel know that this Yeshua that you executed on a pole, God made him both the master and the messiah.”

37When the people heard that, they were deeply troubled and asked Peter and the other missionaries, “What should we do then, brothers?”

38Peter responded, “Turn away from your sins and each one of you needs to be immersed by the authority of Yeshua the messiah. Then your sins will be forgiven and you all will receive the gift of the holy spirit, 39because that promise is to you all and your children and to their descendants—to anyone who will call out to the master, our God.”

40Then Peter shared further teaching with them and encouraged them to save themselves out from this corrupt generation. 41Because of that, those who welcomed his teaching were immersed and about three thousand people were added to their numbers that day. 42They continued listening to the teaching of the missionaries, and in building their relationships with each other, and in breaking bread and praying together.

14But the Petros having_been_stood with the eleven, lifted_up the voice of_him and spoke_out to_them:
Men, ones_from_Youdaia, and all you_all dwelling_in Hierousalaʸm, let_ this _be known to_you_all and give_ear to_the messages of_me.
15For/Because these are_ not _being_drunk as you_all are_supposing, because/for it_is the_ third _hour, of_the day, 16but this is the message having_been_spoken by the prophet Yōaʸl/(Yōʼēl):
17And it_will_be in the last days, the god is_saying:
I_will_be_pouring_out of the spirit of_me on all flesh, and the sons of_you_all will_be_prophesying, and the daughters of_you_all, and the young_men of_you_all will_be_seeing visions, and the elders of_you_all in_dreams will_be_being_dreamt,
18and surely I_will_be_pouring_out of the spirit of_me on the slaves of_me, and on the handmaidens of_me, in the those days, and they_will_be_prophesying.
19And I_will_be_giving wonders in the sky above, and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapour of_smoke.
20The sun will_be_being_altered into darkness and the moon into blood, before the_ the great and glorious _day of_the_master to_come.
21And it_will_be, everyone who wishfully may_call on_the name of_the_master will_be_being_saved.
22Men, ones_from_Israaʸl/(Yisrāʼēl), hear the messages these:
Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) the from_Nazaret, a_man having_been_demonstrated by the god to you_all by_miracles, and wonders, and signs, which the god did by him in the_midst of_you_all, as you_all_ yourselves _have_known.
23This man by_the, having_been_designated counsel and foreknowledge of_ the _god, delivered_up by the_hand of_the_lawless ones, you_all_killed having_executed_on_a_stake.
24Whom the god raised_up, having_untied/released the agonies of_the death, as_much_as was not possible him to_be_being_restrained by it.
25For/Because Dawid/(Dāvid) is_saying to him:
I_was_foreseeing the master before me through all time, because he_is on the_right of_me, in_order_that I _may_ not _be_shaken.
26Because_of this the heart of_me was_gladdened, and the tongue of_me exulted, and still also the flesh of_me will_be_nesting in hope, 27because you will_ not _be_abandoning the soul of_me into Haidaʸs, nor will_you_be_giving the devout one of_you to_see decay.
28You_made_known to_me the_ways of_life, you_will_be_filling me with_gladness with the presence of_you.
29Men, brothers, it_is_permitting to_speak with confidence to you_all concerning the patriarch Dawid that he_ both _died and was_buried, and the tomb of_him is among us until the this day.
30Therefore being a_prophet, and having_known that - god swore to_him with_an_oath:
of the_fruit of_the loin of_him, to_sit_down on the throne of_him.
31Having_foreseen, he_spoke concerning the resurrection of_the chosen_one/messiah that neither was_abandoned into Haidaʸs, nor the flesh of_him saw decay.
32This the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) the god raised_up, of_which all we are witnesses.
33Therefore having_been_exalted by_the right hand of_ the _god, and having_received the promise of_the the holy spirit, from the father, he_poured_ this _out which you_all are_seeing and are_hearing.
34For/Because Dawid/(Dāvid) not went_up into the heavens, but himself is_saying, the_master Said to_the master of_me:
Be_sitting on the_right of_me,
35until wishfully I_may_put the enemies of_you a_footstool of_the feet of_you.
36Assuredly therefore let_ All the_house of_Israaʸl/(Yisrāʼēl) _be_knowing that the god made him both the_master and the_chosen_one/messiah, this the Yaʸsous whom you_all executed_on_a_stake.
37And having_heard, they_were_pierced to_the heart, both they_said to the Petros and the other ambassadors:
What may_we_do, men, brothers?
38And Petros is_saying to them:
Repent:
and let_ each of_you_all _be_immersed in the name of_Yaʸsous chosen_one/messiah, because/for forgiveness of_the sins of_you_all, and you_all_will_be_receiving the gift of_the holy spirit.
39For/Because the promise is to_you_all, and to_the children of_you_all, and to_all the ones at far, as_many_as wishfully may_call_to the_master, the god of_us.
40Both with_ more _other messages he_testified, and was_exhorting them saying:
Be_saved from this the crooked the generation.
41Therefore indeed the ones having_welcomed the message of_him were_immersed, and were_added on the that day, about three_thousand souls.
42And they_were persevering in_the teaching of_the ambassadors, and the in_fellowship, the breaking of_the bread, and the in_prayers.
