8 And it was, in the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth of the month, I was sitting in my house, and the elders of Judah were sitting to my face. And the hand of the Lord Yahweh fell on me there. 2 And I looked, and look!—a likeness like the appearance of fire. From the appearance of his waist and downward, was fire, and from his waist and upward, was like the appearance of brightness, like the eye of the metal. 3 And he sent out the form of a hand, and he took me by a lock of my head. Then a wind lifted me between the earth and between the heavens, and it brought me to Jerusalem in visions of God, to the entrance of the gate of the inner court, the one opening northward, where there was the seat of the image of jealousy, the one provoking jealousy. 4 And look! There was the glory of the God of Israel, like the appearance that I saw in the valley.
5 Then he said to me, “Son of man, now lift your eyes, to the way of the north.” So I lifted my eyes, to the way of the north, and look!—from the north of the gate of the altar, was this image of jealousy at the entrance.
6 Then he said to me, “Son of man, are you seeing what they are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel is doing here, to make me far from upon my sanctuary? But you will yet return; you will see great abominations.”
7 Then he brought me to the entrance of the courtyard. And I looked, and look!—one hole in the wall. 8 And he said to me, “Son of man, now dig into the wall.” So I dug into the wall, and look!—one entrance.
9 Then he said to me, “Enter, and see the evil abominations that they are doing here.” 10 So I entered, and I looked, and look!—every form of crawling thing and detestable animal and all of the idols of the house of Israel, carved on the wall all around, all around.
11And seventy men from the elders of the house of Israel (and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan was standing in their midst) were standing to their faces, and each man—his censer in his hand. And the smell of the cloud of incense was ascending.
12 Then he said to me, “Are you seeing, son of man, that which the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark—each man in the chambers of his picture? For they are saying, ‘Yahweh is not seeing us; Yahweh has abandoned the land.’ ” 13 And he said to me, “You will yet return; you will see, the great abominations that they are doing.”
14 Then he brought me to the entrance of the gate of the house of Yahweh that, was toward the north, and look! There, the women were sitting, weeping the Tammuz. 15 Then he said to me, “Are you seeing, son of man? Still, you will return; you will see greater abominations than these.”
16 So he brought me to the court of the house of Yahweh, the inner one, and look! At the entrance of the temple of Yahweh, between the porch and between the altar—about 25 men, their backs toward the temple of Yahweh and their faces eastward, and they were prostrating themselves eastward to the sun.
17 Then he said to me, “Are you seeing, son of man? Is it too light for the house of Judah, doing the abominations that they have done here? For they have filled the land, with violence, and they have returned to make me angry. And look! They are sending the branch out to their nose! 18 And so I—I will act in heat. My eye will not pity, and I will not have compassion. And they will call out in my ears, with a great voice, but I will not hear them.”
