Don’t expect peace

Mat 10:34–39

Luke 12:51–53

Luke 14:26–27

10:34 Don’t expect peace

(Luke 12:51-53)

34Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth. No, I came to bring war not peace, 35[ref]because I came to divide a son against his father and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law 36and person to become an enemy of their own household.

37Anyone who loves their father or mother more than they love me is not worthy of being mine, and anyone who loves their son or daughter more than they love me is not worthy of being mine. 38[ref]Anyone who doesn’t pick up their own execution stake and carry it as they follow me, is not worthy of being mine. 39[ref]Anyone who has found their life will lose it, and anyone who loses their life because of following me, will find it.

51You all probably expect that I came to bring peace to the earth? No, I’m telling you, not peace but conflict, 52because from now on, if there’s five people in one house, they’ll be split with three against two and two against three. 53[ref]Fathers will be in conflict with their sons, and sons with fathers, mothers against daughters and daughters against mothers, mothers-in-law against their daughters-in-law and daughters-in-law against mothers-in-law.

26[ref]If anyone comes to me but doesn’t love me more than they love their parents and their siblings, and their spouse and children, and even their own life, then that person is unable to become my follower. 27[ref]Anyone who doesn’t give up everything in this life and come after me is unable to become my follower,
