5 And the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel—for he was the firstborn, but when he defiled the couches of his father, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel, so he is not enrolled according to the birthright; 2 though Judah was great among his brothers, and a leader was from him, yet the birthright was to Joseph—3 the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. 4 The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son, 5 Micah, his son, Reaiah, his son, Baal, his son, 6 Beerah, his son, whom Tiglath Pileser, the king of Assyria, exiled. He was a leader of the Reubenites. 7 And his brothers by his clans in the genealogy of their generations: Jeiel, the head, and Zechariah, 8 and Bela, the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel. He was dwelling in Aroer and unto Nebo and Baal Meon, 9 and to the east he dwelled unto the entrance of the wilderness, to near the Euphrates River, for their livestock multiplied in the land of Gilead. 10 And in the days of Saul, they made war with the Hagrites, and they fell into their hand. And they dwelled in their tents upon all of the face of the east of Gilead.
11 And the sons of Gad dwelled to the front of them in the land of Bashan unto Salecah: 12 Joel, the head, and Shapham, the second, and Janai and Shaphat in Bashan. 13 And their brothers, according to the house of their fathers: Michael and Meshullam and Sheba and Jorai and Jacan and Zia and Eber—seven. 14 These were the sons of Abihail, the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz. 15 Ahi, the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, was the head of the house of their fathers. 16 And they dwelled in Gilead, in Bashan, and in its daughters, and in all of the pasturelands of Sharon unto their borders. 17 All of them were enrolled in the days of Jotham, the king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam, the king of Israel.
18 The sons of Reuben and the Gadites and half of the tribe of Manasseh, from sons of valor, men, carriers of the shield and sword and treaders of the bow and taught of battle, were 44,760 going out as an army. 19 And they made war with the Hagrites and Jetur and Naphish and Nodab. 20 And they were helped against them, and the Hagrites were given into their hand and all who were with them. For they cried out to God in the battle, and he was entreated by them, for they trusted in him. 21 And they captured their livestock: their camels, 50,000, and sheep, 250,000, and donkeys, 2,000, and soul of man, 100,000. 22 For many fell slain, for the battle was from God. And they dwelled in place of them until the exile.
23 And the sons of half of the tribe of Manasseh dwelled in the land from Bashan unto Baal Hermon and Senir and Mount Hermon. They, they multiplied. 24 And these were the heads of the house of their fathers, even Epher and Ishi and Eliel and Azriel and Jeremiah and Hodaviah and Jahdiel, men, warriors of strength, men of names, heads of the house of their fathers.
25 But they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and they whored after the gods of the peoples of the land whom God had destroyed from their faces. 26 So the God of Israel awakened the spirit of Pul, the king of Assyria and the spirit of Tiglath Pileser, the king of Assyria. And he exiled them, namely the Reubenites and the Gadites and half of the tribe of Manasseh. And he brought them to Halah and Habor and Hara and the river of Gozan unto this day.
