24 And the word of Yahweh came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, saying, 2 “Son of man, write for yourself the name of the day, this very day. The king of Babylon has pressed against Jerusalem on this very day. 3 And speak a parable to the house of rebellion, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Set on the pot, set it on, and also pour water into it. 4 Gather its pieces into it, every good piece, thigh and shoulder; fill it with the choicest of bones. 5 Take the choicest of the flock, and also pile up the bones under it. Boil its boilings; also its bones have boiled in its midst.
6 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Woe to the city of bloodshed, the pot whose rust is in it and whose rust has not gone out from it! To its pieces, to its pieces, bring it out; no lot has fallen on it. 7 For her blood is in her midst; on the bare surface of a rock she placed it. She did not pour it out on the ground, to cover dust over it. 8 To make wrath go up, to avenge vengeance, I have put her blood on the bare surface of a rock, so that it will not be covered.
9 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Woe to the city of bloodshed! Also I, I will make the pile of wood great. 10 Multiply the wood, kindle the fire, finish the flesh, and mix the mixture, and the bones will be burned. 11 And make it stand on its coals empty, so that it may become hot and its bronze may burn, and its uncleanness may be melted in its midst, its rust may come to an end. 12 It has made itself weary, with toils, and the abundance of its rust has not gone out from it; into the fire, with its rust! 13 In your uncleanness is depravity. Because I cleansed you but you were not clean, from your uncleanness you will not be clean again until I have caused my wrath to rest on you. 14 I, Yahweh, have spoken. It is coming, and I will do it. I will not refrain, and I will not have pity, and I will not relent. According to your ways and according to your deeds they have judged you’— the declaration of the Lord Yahweh.”
15 And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, 16 “Son of man, behold, I am taking from you the desire of your eyes with a plague. But you will not mourn, and you will not weep, and your tears will not come. 17 Groan, be silent; for the dead you will not make mourning. Bind your headdress on yourself, and put your sandals on your feet. And you will not cover over, your mustache, and you will not eat the bread of men.” 18 And I spoke to the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening. And I did in the morning as I was commanded. 19 And the people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these are to us, that you are doing them?” 20 And I said to them, “The word of Yahweh came to me, saying, 21 ‘Say to the house of Israel, “Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Behold, I am profaning my sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and the compassion of your soul. And your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind will fall by the sword. 22 And you will do as I have done. You will not cover over, your mustache, and you will not eat the bread of men. 23 And your headdresses will be on your heads and your sandals on your feet. You will not mourn and you will not weep, but you will rot away in your iniquities, and you will groan, a man to his brother. 24 And Ezekiel will be for a sign to you; according to all that he has done you will do. When it comes, then you will know that I am the Lord Yahweh.” ’ ”
25 “And you, son of man, will it not be in the day of my taking from them their stronghold, the joy of their splendor, the desire of their eyes, and the lifting up of their soul, their sons and their daughters, 26 in that day the fugitive will come to you, to cause the ears to hear? 27 In that day your mouth will be opened to the fugitive, and you will speak and you will no longer be mute. And you will be for a sign to them, and they will know that I am Yahweh.”
