This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.
18 You who desire the day of Yahweh won’t end well.
Why do you long for the day of Yahweh?
It’ll be darkness and not light,
19 like when a person flees from a lion and then they run into a bear,
≈ or when a person goes in a house and puts a hand on the wall and gets bitten by a snake.
20 Won’t Yahweh’s day consist of darkness and not light?
≈ Gloom and no brightness?
21 “I hate, I despise your festivals,
≈ I take no delight in your formal gatherings.[ref]
22 Even though you all offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I won’t accept them,
≈ nor will I take any notice of your fellowship offerings of fattened animals.
23 Take the noise of your songs away from me.
≈ I won’t listen to the sound of your harps.
24 Instead, let justice flow like water,
≈ and righteousness like a constantly flowing stream.
25 You descendants of Yisrael,
did you bring me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness for forty years?[ref]
26 You’ve all lifted up the images of Sikkut, your king,
and Kiyyun, your star god that you made for yourselves. 27 Therefore I will exile you far beyond Damascus,”
Isa 1:11-14:
11 “What do your many sacrifices mean to me?” asks Yahweh.
“I’ve had enough of the burnt offerings of rams,
and the fat of fattened animals,
and I’m not pleased by the blood of bulls or lambs or goats.[ref]
12 Who told you all that you had to appear in front of me?
Who said that you all should come and trample through my courtyards?
13 Don’t keep bringing me worthless offerings.
They smell terribly bad to me.
New moon holidays and sabbaths, calling of assemblies—
I can’t stand your disobedience mixed with your festive celebrations.
14 My spirit hates your religious holidays and your feasts on the calendar.
They’ve become a burden to me that I’m tired of carrying.
Acts 7:42-43:
42 [ref]But God turned and allowed them to serve the heavenly armies, just as the prophets wrote,
‘It wasn’t me that you Israelis sacrificed to for those forty years in the wilderness.
43 You turned to Molech’s tent and Refan’s star as your gods by making images of them to bow down to. So for that, I’ll send you all away into exile beyond Babylon.’
7:42-43: Amos 5:25-27 (LXX).
