Yeshua is anointed with lotion

Mat 26:6–13

Mark 14:3–9

Yhn 12:1–8

26:6 Yeshua is anointed with lotion

(Mark 14:3-9, Yhn 12:1-8)

6Meanwhile Yeshua arrived in Bethany at the house of Simon who had previously had leprosy. 7[ref]A woman inside the house came up to him carrying a carved alabaster flask of very expensive lotion, which she poured over his head as he was seated, 8but some of his followers were upset when they saw this, and complained, “Why all this waste? 9That could have been sold and raised a lot of money to give to the poor.”

10But Yeshua knew what they were saying and responded, “Why are you all causing problems for this woman, because she did something beautiful for me. 11[ref]You’ll always have the poor with you, but you won’t always have me around. 12This woman put this lotion on my body in a sense as a burial spice. 13I can assure you all that wherever the good message about me is retold anywhere in the world, this woman and what she did will also be mentioned as a memorial to her.

14:3 The woman anoints Yeshua for his burial

(Yhn 12:1-8, Mat. 26:6-13)

3[ref]Meanwhile, Yeshua was in Bethany at the home who Simon who had previously had leprosy. Yeshua was sitting there when a woman came in with a hand-crafted container of very expensive fragrant oil. Breaking open the sealed flask, she poured the fragrant oil over Yeshua’s head. 4Immediately some started quietly grumbling about the extravagant waste, 5then they scolded the woman because a flask of genuine lotion like this could easily fetch almost a year’s wages if it was sold.

6But Yeshua spoke up, “What do you think you’re doing abusing her—leave her alone! She’s done something very good for me. 7[ref]You’ll always have poor people around, and you can help them whenever you want to, but I won’t be around forever. 8She has performed the traditional anointing of my body in advance of my burial. 9And I can assure you that wherever the good news is proclaimed around the world, what she has done today will be part of the story and she’ll be remembered.

12:1 Maria sacrifices expensive fragrant oil

(Mat. 26:6-13, Mark 14:3-9)

12Because of this, Yeshua went to Bethany six days before the Passover. This was where Lazarus lived, the one he had brought back to life. 2So they prepared dinner for him there and Martha was serving and Lazarus was among those sitting with Yeshua. 3[ref]Then Maria took about 300g of very expensive nard oil and smeared it on Yeshua’s feet, and then wiped off his feet with her own hair, and the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. 4But Yudas, one of Yeshua’s apprentices (the one who would eventually turn him in) complained, 5“How come this lotion wasn’t sold for almost a year’s wages and then the money given to the poor?” 6But he didn’t say this because he cared for poor people, but because he carried the purse for the group and used to steal from it.

7But Yeshua responded, “Let her continue. She has kept this for the time of my burial. 8[ref]You’ll always have poor people with you, but you won’t always have me here.
