John 17

17Jesus spoke these things, and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son, so that {the}[fn] Son [[also]][fn] may glorify you, 2just as you have given him authority over all flesh, so that {he may give eternal life to all whom you have given him}.[fn]

3“And this is eternal life, that they may know [you,][fn] the only true God, and the one whom you have sent, Jesus Christ [[into this world]].[fn]

4“I have glorified you on the earth, [{having}[fn] finished][fn] {the}[fn] work which you have given me to do; 5And now, glorify me, Father, with yourself, with the glory {which I had before the world was, with you}.[fn]

6“I have made your name known to the men whom you gave me from {the}[fn] world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7[And][fn] Now they have known that all things which you have given to me are from you; 8for [the][fn] words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they [have received them {and][fn] know in truth}[fn] that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.

9“I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you have given me, for they are yours. 10{All mine are yours, and yours are mine;}[fn] and {I have been glorified in them}.[fn]

11“And I am {no longer}[fn] in {the}[fn] world, and they are in the world, and I am coming to you. [[I am no longer in the world. And in the world,]][fn] Holy Father, keep them in {your}[fn] name which you have given me. [[And when I was with them, I was keeping them in your name.]][fn] [So that they may be one as we are].[fn]

12“When I was with them [[in the world]],[fn] I kept them in {your}[fn] name [, which you have given me][fn] [[, so that they may be one as we are]].[fn] [And][fn] I guarded them, and none of them perished except the son of destruction, so that the scripture might be fulfilled.

13“But now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in {the}[fn] world so that they may have my joy made complete in {themselves}.[fn] 14[[But]][fn] I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of {the}[fn] world [, just as I am not of the world].[fn]

15“I am not asking that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.

16“They are not of {the}[fn] world, just as I am not of the world. 17Sanctify them in {the}[fn] truth. [Your word is truth.][fn] 18As you have sent me into {the}[fn] world, so I have sent them into {the}[fn] world. 19And for their sake I sanctify myself, so that they also may be sanctified in truth.

20“Not concerning these only do I ask, but also concerning those who believe in me through their word, 21that they may all be [one],[fn] as you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be [[one]][fn] in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

22“And {the}[fn] glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one in us, just as we are one, 23I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, {so that}[fn] the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

24“Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see {my}[fn] glory, which you have given me because you loved [me][fn] before the foundation of the world.

25“Righteous Father, {the}[fn] world does not know you. [But][fn] I know you; and these know that you have sent me. 26I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
