Isaiah uses the word but here to indicate a contrast between Yahweh hiding his face in anger for a moment and Yahweh showing compassion because of his covenant faithfulness that lasts forever. In your translation, indicate this contrast in a way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [however, because of my everlasting covenant faithfulness]
