Expectations for behaviour

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

Readers’ Version

Literal Version

2:1 Expectations for behaviour

2Then first of all I urge you all to pray for all people—petitioning to God while also expressing thanks for them. 2So too for kings and other prominent officials so that we can live a quiet and tranquil life with all devoutness and dignity. 3This is good and pleasing to God our saviour 4who wants everyone to be saved and to know the truth.[ref] 5There’s only one God and also one mediator between God and humankind and that’s the man Yeshua the messiah 6who gave himself as a ransom for all people and as a testimony of God’s love for all time. 7I was appointed[ref] to proclaim that message and as an missionary—no lies, I’m telling you the truth here in the messiah—and also as a teacher of knowledge and the truth to non-Jews.

8That’s why I long to see men praying in every country, lifting up their morally-clean hands and not harbouring anger or disunity.

9Similarly women should wear respectable clothes that are sensible and modest,[ref] not with braids or gold or pearls or expensive clothing 10but with what is fitting for women who do good things, having declared that they honour God. 11Women should be learning quietly and submissively, 12but I don’t permit women to be teaching or domineering men. They should remain quiet 13because Adam was created first, then Eve,[ref] 14and it wasn’t Adam that was seduced but rather it was the woman that was deceived and disobeyed.[ref] 15But women will be saved through childbearing if they continue in faith and love and purity and self-control.

2Therefore I_am_exhorting, first of_all petitions, prayers, petitions, thanksgivings to_be_being_made, because/for all people, 2for kings and all who being in prominence, in_order_that we_may_be_going_by a_tranquil and quiet living in all devoutness and dignity.
3This is good and acceptable before god the saviour of_us, 4who is_wanting all people to_be_saved, and to_come to the_knowledge of_the_truth.
5For/Because one god there_is, also one mediator between_god and humans, the_human chosen_one/messiah Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa), 6the one having_given himself a_ransom for all, and testimony in_ its_own _seasons, 7to which I was_appointed a_proclaimer and an_ambassador (I_am_speaking the_truth in chosen_one/messiah, I_am_ not _lying), a_teacher of_the_pagans in knowledge and truth.
8Therefore I_am_wishing the men to_be_praying in every place, lifted_up devout hands apart_from severe_anger and speculation.
9Likewise women in respectable apparel to_be_adorning themselves with modesty and sobriety, not with braids, and gold, or pearls, or expensive clothing, 10but what is_befitting to_women professing the_god-fearing, through good works.
11Let_ a_woman _be_learning in quietness in all submission.
12But I_am_ not _permitting to_be_teaching by_a_women, nor to_be_domineering of_a_man, but to_be in quietness.
13For/Because Adam/(ʼĀdām) was_formed first, thereafter Heua/(Ḩavvāh), 14and Adam was_ not _seduced, but the woman having_been_deceived, has_become in transgression.
15But she_will_be_being_saved through the childbearing, if they_may_remain in faith, and love, and holiness, with sobriety.
