ULT JER Chapter 8

8 “At that time—the declaration of Yahweh—they will bring out the bones of the kings of Judah and and the bones of its rulers, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the dwellers of Jerusalem from the graves. 2 And they will spread them out to the sun and to the moon and to all of the armies of the heavens that they loved them and that they served them, and that they walked after them and that they sought them, and that they bowed down to them. They will not be gathered, and they will not be buried again. They will be for dung on the face of the land. 3 And they will choose death more than life for all of the remnant who are remaining from this evil family, in all of the places of those who are remaining, where I drove them there—the declaration of Yahweh of hosts.

4 And I will say to them, ‘Thus says Yahweh, "Will they fall and not get up? If they will turn, will they not also turn?

5 Why is this people, Jerusalem, turned, enduring apostasy?

They grasp upon deceit and refuse to turn.

6 I paid attention and listened, they did not speak right. There was not a man sorry because of his wickedness, saying,

“What have I done?” All of them turn in their running,

like a stallion plunging into battle.

7 Even the stork in the heavens knows its times,

and a dove, and a swift one, and a crane keep the time of their coming, and my people do not know the judgment of Yahweh.

8 How will you say, “We are wise, and the law of Yahweh is with us”?

Indeed, behold! The stylus of the deceitful scribes have made it for a deceitful thing.

9 The wise men have been ashamed, they are dismayed and captured.

Behold! They refused against the word of Yahweh, and the wisdom of what is to them?

10 Therefore I will give their wives to others, their fields to those possessing them,

for from the least until the greatest, all of them are greedy for dishonest gain! From the prophet and until the priest, all of them practice deceit.

11 They healed the breaking of the daughter of my people upon being light,

saying, “Peace, Peace,” and there is not peace.

12 Were they ashamed when they did an abomination? Even being ashamed, they were not ashamed, they did not know to be humiliated! Therefore they will fall among the fallen, they will stumble in the time of their visitation says Yahweh.

13 Gathering I will gather them—the declaration of Yahweh—there are not grapes on the vine, and there are not figs on the fig tree, and the foliage is withered, and I gave to them, they pass over them.

14 Because of what are we sitting? Be gathered! Let us go to the cities of fortification, and we will perish there.

For Yahweh our God will cause us to perish, and he will make us drink water of poison, for we have sinned against him.

15 Hope for peace, and there is not good,

for a time of healing, and behold, terror.

and they will come and consume the land and its fullness, the city and those dwelling in it.

17 For behold, I am sending out snakes among you, poisonous snakes that there is not for them a charm.

and they will bite you—the declaration of Yahweh.’ ”

18 My incurable is upon grief, and my heart is sick within me.

19 Behold! The sound of a cry for help of the daughter of my people from a far away land! Is Yahweh not in Zion?

Is her king no longer in her? Why do they provoke me to anger with their idols and with vain foreign things?

20 The harvest has passed, summer has ended, and we have not been delivered.

21 I am broken because of the breaking of the daughter of my people. I mourn at the horrible thing. It has seized me.

22 Is there no Balsam medicine in Gilead? Is there not a healer there?

Why does the healing of the daughter of my people not go up?
