πιστός

Strong’s: G4103

Associated OET lemmas: πιστός

Other spellings: πιστή

Notes: πιστή has also been treated in 11.17: πιστός as a name for a member of the Christian constituency. This is a good instance of complete overlapping in that the same term may be classified in two quite distinct ways, one based on group membership and the other based upon the type of belief which results in such membership. It would be possible, therefore, to indicate that in the case of πιστή[b] (= πιστός[e]) in 11.17: πιστός there is an added component of group identification, but one may also argue that such a feature of meaning is derived essentially from the context.; πιστή may also be regarded as a derivative of πιστεύω[c] to be a believer (31.102: πιστεύω / 31.102: πίστις), but NT usage in a passage such as RV ACT 16:1 · LV ACT 16:1 · Read together ACT 16:1 seems to focus more upon group adherence than upon the actual state of believing. See also 31.103: πιστός and footnote.
