Matthew 28

28 Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the tomb. 2 [And][fn] Behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone [[from the door]][fn] and sat upon it. 3 And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 And from the fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. 5 [But][fn] The angel answered and said [to the women],[fn] “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are seeking Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said; come, see the place where {he}[fn] was lying. 7 And go quickly and tell his disciples that he has been raised [from the dead],[fn] and [behold,][fn] he is going ahead of you into Galilee; there you will see him. Behold, I have told you.”

8 And they quickly {departed}[fn] from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to report to his disciples.

9 And [[as they went to tell his disciples,]][fn] behold, Jesus met them saying, “Rejoice!” And they, having approached, took hold of his feet and worshiped[fn] him.

10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and report to {my}[fn] brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

11 Now as they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers 13 and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 And if this comes to the governor's ears, we will persuade [him][fn] and keep you out of trouble.”

15 And those who had received the silver did as they were instructed. And this word was spread among the Jews until this day.

16 But the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them.

17 And when they saw him, they worshiped[fn] [[him]],[fn] but some doubted.

18 And Jesus came and spoke [to them,][fn] saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on [the][fn] earth. 19 [Therefore,][fn] Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,[fn] 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. [[Amen]]”[fn]
