Matthew 24

24And Jesus went out from the temple and was going on his way, and his disciples came [[to him]][fn] to show him the buildings of the temple.

2But he answering [[Jesus]][fn] said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I tell you, not a stone will be left [here][fn] upon a stone that will not be torn down.”

3And as he was sitting on the Mount of Olives [[opposite the temple]],[fn] {the}[fn] disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and the end of the age?”

4And Jesus answered and said to them, “See that no one leads you astray. 5For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. 6And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for it must [[all]][fn] happen, but the end is not yet.

7“For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines [[and plagues]][fn] and earthquakes in various places; 8[but][fn] all these things are the beginning of birth pains.

9“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and will kill you, and you will be hated by {all the nations}[fn] because of my name. 10And then many will fall away and will betray one another {and will hate one another};[fn] 11and many false prophets will arise and will lead many astray; 12and because lawlessness will increase, the love of many will grow cold. 13But the one who endures to the end [, this one][fn] will be saved.

14“And {this}[fn] gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole inhabited earth as a testimony to [all][fn] the nations, and then the end will come.

15“So when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet,[fn] standing in the holy place, let the reader understand, 16then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, 17the one on the roof should not go down to take anything out of his house, 18and the one in the field should not turn [back][fn] to take his cloak.

19“Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing infants in those days! 20Pray that your flight may not be in winter or {on}[fn] a Sabbath. 21For [then][fn] there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will be. 22And if those days had not been cut short, no flesh would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

23“Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ,’ or ‘[[Behold,]][fn] There,’ do not believe it; 24for [false christs and][fn] false prophets will rise and will give [great][fn] signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 25Look, I have told you beforehand. 26So if they say to you, ‘Look, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27For just as the lightning comes from the east and is seen even to the west, so [[also]][fn] will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28[[For]][fn] Wherever the {corpse}[fn] is, there the eagles will gather.

29“But immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.[fn]

30“And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in {heaven},[fn] and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with great power and great glory. 31And [[then]][fn] he will send his angels with a great trumpet [[sound]],[fn] and they will gather his elect[fn] from the four winds, from the ends of the heavens to their ends. [[But when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads because your redemption is drawing near.]][fn]

32“Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near; 33so also you, when you see all these things [[happening]],[fn] know that it is near, at the doors. 34Truly I say to you [that],[fn] this generation will not pass away until all [these things][fn] take place. 35[Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.][fn]

36“But concerning that day or hour, no one knows, not even the angels in the heavens [nor the Son],[fn] but only {the}[fn] Father.

37“{For}[fn] just as the days of Noah were, so [[also]][fn] will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38For [[just]][fn] as they were [in those][fn] days {before}[fn] the flood, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, 39and they did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so will be [also][fn] the coming of the Son of Man.

40“Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and [[the]][fn] one will be left. 41Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left. [[Two will be on one bed; one will be taken, and one will be left.]][fn] 42Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what {day}[fn] your Lord is coming.

43“But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what {watch}[fn] the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44For this reason, you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

45“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom {the}[fn] lord has put in charge of his household to give [them][fn] their food at the proper time? 46Blessed is that servant whom the lord finds doing so when he comes. 47Truly I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

48“But if {that}[fn] wicked servant says in his heart, ‘My lord delays [to come],’[fn] 49and begins to beat {his}[fn] fellow servants, and eats and drinks with drunkards, 50the lord of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, 51and will cut him in two and assign him [a place][fn] with the hypocrites; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
