1Adam, Seth, Enosh; 2Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared; 3Hanok, Methushelah, Lemek; 4Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

5The descendants of Japheth were the Cimmerians, Magog, the Medes, the Ionians, Tubal, Meshek, and Tiras. 6The descendants of the Cimmerians were Ashkenaz, Diphath, and Togarmah. 7The descendants of the Ionians were Elishah, Tartessus, Cyprus, and Rhodes. 8The descendants of Ham were Ethiopia, Egypt, Put, and Canaan. 9The descendants of Ethiopia were Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raamah, and Sabteca. The descendants of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan. 10Ethiopia produced Nimrod, the first man on earth to be a despot. 11From Egypt sprang Lud, the Anamim, the Libyans, the Naphtuhim, 12Pathros, the Casluhim, and Crete (from which the Philistines came). 13From Canaan sprang Sidon first of all, then the Hittites, 14the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, 15the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, 16the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites.

17The descendants of Shem were Elam, Assyria, Axpachshad, the Lydians, Aram, Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshek. 18From Arpachshad sprang Shelah, and from Shelah Eber. 19Two sons were born to Eber, one called Peleg (Division) because the inhabitants of the earth were divided up in his day, and his brother called Joktan. 20From Joktan sprang Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 21Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 23Ophir, Hav­ilah, and Jobab; all these were descendants of Joktan.

24Shem, Arpachshad, Shelah; 25Eber, Peleg, Reu; 26Serug, Nahor, Terah; 27Abram (that is, Abraham).

28The sons of Abraham were Isaac and Ishmael, 29and these are their descendants. Ishmael's sons were Nebaioth the eldest, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 30Mishma, Dumah, 30 Massa, Hadad, Tema, 31Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah; these are Ishmael's sons.

32Abraham's concubine Keturah bore sons, Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan, 33and from Midian sprang Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida, and El- daah; all these were descended from Keturah.

34Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac's sons were Esau and Israel. 35Esau's sons were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. 36Eliphaz was the father of Teman, Omar, Zephi, Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek; 37Reuel was the father of Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. 38The sons of Seir were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Rishan; 39Lotan's children were Hori and Homam, Lotan's sister being Timna; 40Shobal's children were Alian, Manahath, Ebal, Shephi, and Onam; Zibeon's children were Aiah and Anah. 41Anah was the father of Dishon, and Dishon's children were Hamran, Eshban, Ithran, and Keran. 42Ezer's children were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Jaakan; Rishan’s children were Uz and Aran.

43Here are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before any king reigned over the Israelites. Bela the son of Beor, whose capital was Dinhabah, 44died and was succeeded by Jobab the son of Zerah, of Busaireh. 45Jobab died and was succeeded by Husham from the Temanite country. 46Husham died and was succeeded by Hadad the son of Bedad, who defeated the Midianites in the open country of Moab; the name of his capital was Avith. 47Hadad died and was succeeded by Samlah of Masrekah. 48Samlah died and was succeeded by Saul from Rahaba on the Euphrates. 49Saul died and was succeeded by Baal-hanan the son of Achbor. 50Baal-hanan died and was succeeded by Hadad; the name of his capital was Pai, and his wife was called Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, who was the daughter of Mezahab. 51Hadad died.

The chieftains of Edom were the chieftain of Timna, the chieftain of Alvah, the chieftain of Jetheth, 52the chieftain of Oholibamah, the chieftain of Elath, the chieftain of Punon, 53the chieftain of Kenaz, the chieftain of Teman, the chieftain of Mibzar, 54the chieftain of Magdiel, and the chieftain of Iram; these were the chieftains of Edom.
