16 The Keynim (descendants of Mosheh’s (Moses) father-in-law), left the city of palm trees (Yeriho (Jericho) ) and went with Yehudah’s (Judah) descendants to the southern wilderness near Arad and lived with the people there. 17 Then the warriors of Yehudah and Shim’on (Simeon) conquered the Kena’anim (Canaanites) living at Tsefat and destroyed the city. Now it’s called Hormah (which means ‘complete destruction’). 18 They also captured Azah (Gaza), Ashkelon, and Ekron and all their surrounding territories. 19 Yahweh helped Yehudah and they took possession of the hill country, although they weren’t able to conquer the people living down in the plains because they had iron on their chariots. 20 They gave Hevron to Kalev (Caleb) just as Mosheh had directed, and he dispossessed the three sons of the Anak from there.[ref] 21 However Benyamin’s descendants didn’t drive the Yevusim living in Yerushalem (Jerusalem) out, so they have lived among the Benyamites in Yerushalem to this day.[ref]
