Psalmes 72

P S A L. LXXI.

1 Dauid in confidence of faith and experience of Gods fauour, prayeth both for himselfe, and against the enemies of his soule. 14 He promiseth constancie. 17 Hee prayeth for perseuerance. 19 He praiseth God, and promiseth to doe it cheerefully.

¶ In [ref]thee, O LORD, doe I put my trust, let me neuer be put to confusion. 2Deliuer mee in thy righteousnesse, and cause me to escape: incline thine eare vnto me, and saue me. 3[fn]Bee thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast giuen commandement to saue mee, for thou art my rocke, and my fortresse. 4Deliuer me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the vnrighteous, and cruel man. 5For thou art my hope, O LORD God: thou art my trust from my youth. 6By thee haue I bene holden vp from the wombe: thou art hee that tooke mee out of my mothers vowels, my praise shalbe continually of thee. 7I am as a wonder vnto many, but thou art my strong refuge. 8Let my mouth bee filled with thy praise, and with thy honour all the day. 9Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth. 10[fn]For mine enemies speake against mee: and they that lay waite for my soule, take counsell together, 11Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him, for there is none to deliuer him. 12O God, be not farre from mee: O my God, make haste for my helpe. 13Let them be confounded and consumed, that are aduersaries to my soule: let them bee couered with reproch and dishonour, that seeke my hurt. 14But I wil hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more. 15My mouth shall shew foorth thy righteousnesse, and thy saluation all the day: for I know not the numbers thereof. 16I will goe in the strength of the LORD God: I will make mention of thy righteousnesse, euen of thine onely. 17O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto haue I declared thy wonderous workes. 18[fn][fn]Now also when I am old and gray headed, O God, forsake me not: vntill I haue shewed thy strength vnto this generation, and thy power to euery one that is to come. 19Thy righteousnes also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like vnto thee? 20Thou which hast shewed mee great, and sore troubles, shalt quicken mee againe, and shalt bring mee vp againe from the depthes of the earth. 21Thou shalt increase my greatnesse, and comfort me on euery side. 22[fn]I will also praise thee with the psalterie, euen thy trueth, O my God: vnto thee will I sing with the harpe, O thou Holy one of Israel. 23My lippes shall greatly reioyce when I sing vnto thee: and my soule, which thou hast redeemed. 24My tongue also shall talke of thy righteousnesse all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought vnto shame, that seeke my hurt.

P S A L. LXXII.

1 Dauid praying for Solomon, sheweth the goodnesse and glory of his, in type, and in trueth, of Christes kingdome. 18 Hee blesseth God.

¶ A Psalme for Solomon.

1¶ Giue the King thy Iudgements, O God, and thy Righteousnesse vnto the Kings sonne. 2Hee shall iudge thy people with righteousnesse, and thy poore with iudgement. 3The mountaines shal bring peace to the people, and the litle hils, by righteousnesse. 4Hee shall iudge the poore of the people, he shall saue the children of the needie, and shall breake in pieces the oppressour. 5They shall feare thee as long as the Sunne & Moone indure, throughout all generations. 6Hee shall come downe like raine vpon the mowen grasse: as showres that water the earth. 7[fn]In his dayes shall the righteous flourish: and abundance of peace so long as the Moone endureth. 8He shall haue dominion also from sea to sea, and from the riuer, vnto the ends of the earth. 9They that dwell in the wildernesse shall bowe before him: and his enemies shall licke the dust. 10The kings of Tarshish and of the Isles shall bring presents: the Kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. 11Yea, all Kings shall fall downe before him: all nations shall serue him. 12For hee shall deliuer the needy when he crieth: the poore also, and him that hath no helper. 13He shal spare the poore and needy, and shall saue the soules of the needy. 14He shall redeeme their soule from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight. 15[fn]And he shall liue, and to him shalbe giuen of the gold of Sheba; prayer also shalbe made for him continually, and daily shall he be praised. 16There shalbe an handfull of corne in the earth vpon the top of the mountaines; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon, and they of the citie shall flourish like grasse of the earth. 17[fn][fn]His name shall endure for euer: his name shalbe continued as long as the sunne: and men shalbe blessed in him; all nations shall call him blessed. 18Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doth wonderous things. 19And blessed be his glorious name for euer, and let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen, and Amen. 20The prayers of Dauid the sonne of Iesse, are ended.
