This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.
60:1 Yerushalem’s future splendour
60 Take action, shine, because your light has come,
≈ and Yahweh’s brilliance has risen to shine on you,
2 Yes, listen, darkness will cover the earth.
≈ and thick darkess will blanket the nations,
and then Yahweh will dawn over you,
≈ and his brilliance will appear over you.
3 Nations will come to your light,
≈ and kings to your rising brightness.
4 Look up and all around and see all of them gathered together.
Your sons will come from far away,
≈ and your little daughters will be carried back on the hip.
5 Then you’ll see and be radiant,
and your heart will be in awe, and broaden,
because plenty of international shipping will come to you,
6 Plenty of camels will cover your land—
≈ young camels from Midyan and Efah.
All of them will come from Sheba.
They’ll bring gold and frankincense
and will announce praises to Yahweh.
7 All the flocks from Kedar will be gathered for you.
≈ The rams from Nevayot will serve you.
They’ll be accepted to go up onto my altar,
and I’ll decorate my house beautifully.
8 Who are these who fly like a cloud,
≈ and like doves to their windows?
9 The islands wait for me, and the ships from Tarshish
will be first to bring your sons from far away
along with their gold and silver to honour your god Yahweh
≈ and for Yisrael’s holy one because he’s honoured you.
10 The sons of foreigners will rebuild your city walls,
and their kings will serve you,
because although I struck you in my severe anger,
yet in my favour I’ve had compassion towards you.
11 Then your city gates will be always open—
≈ they won’t be shut day or night,[ref]
so the wealth from other nations can be brought to you,
with their kings being led captive.
12 Yes, any nation or kingdom that won’t serve you will perish,
and the nations will be completely destroyed.
13 Lebanon’s best will come to you—
cypress, fir, and cedar timber all at once,
to make my sanctuary beautiful
and I’ll honour the place where I stand.
14 The descendants of those who oppressed you will come to you
and all those who despised you will bow down at your feet.[ref]
They will call you Yahweh’s city—
Yisrael’s holy one—Tsiyyon (Zion).
15 Instead of your being abandoned and hated, with no one passing through you,
I’ll make you a thing of perpetual pride—the joy of future generations.
16 You’ll suckle the milk from the nations,
and feed from the breast of kings,
and you know that I, Yahweh, am your rescuer and your redeemer—Yakov’s powerful one.
17 Instead of bronze and iron, I’ll bring gold and silver,
and instead of timber and stones, bronze and iron.
Then I’ll appoint peace as your overseer,
and righteousness as your supervisors.
18 Violence won’t be experienced in your land—
no more devastation or destruction in your territories.
You’ll realise that salvation protects you like city walls
and praise like your city gates.
19 The sun will no longer be your light during the day,[ref]
≈ nor will the moon’s brightness shine for you,
but rather, Yahweh will be your perpetual light,
≈ and your god will be your brilliant light.
20 Your sun will no longer set,
≈ and your moon will no longer disappear,
because Yahweh will be your perpetual light,
and your days of mourning will be over.
21 As for your people, all of them will do what is right.
They will permanently possess the land—the shoot that I planted—
my handiwork to showcase my greatness.
22 The little one will become a thousand,
and the little nation will become powerful.
I, Yahweh, will quickly accomplish it at the appropriate time.
