AICNT LUKE Chapter 10

LUKE 10 ©

10[After this,][fn] {The Lord}[fn] appointed {seventy-two}[fn] others and sent [them][fn] two by two ahead of him; [two][fn] to every town and place where he was about to go. 2[[Therefore]][fn] He said to them, “[Indeed,][fn] The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few; [therefore],[fn] pray to [the Lord][fn] of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

3“Go; behold, I am sending you out as lambs among wolves. 4Do not carry a money bag, do not carry a sack, do not wear sandals, [and][fn] greet no one on the road.

5“When you enter a house, [first][fn] say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6And if [[indeed]][fn] a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you. 7Stay in that house, eating [and drinking][fn] what they provide, for the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move from house to house. 8When you enter a town and they welcome you, eat what is set before you 9and heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’

10“But when you enter a town and they do not welcome you, go out into its streets and say, 11‘And the dust [that clung to us][fn] from {your}[fn] city, we wipe off [against you][fn] [from our feet].’[fn] But know this, that it has drawn near; [[upon you]][fn] the kingdom of God has come. 12[[But]][fn] I say to you, that it will be more bearable for Sodom {on that day}[fn] than for that city.

13“Woe to you, Chorazin! {Woe to you,}[fn] Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, long ago, [sitting][fn] in sackcloth and ashes, they would have repented 14{But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon [in the judgment][fn] than for you.}[fn]

15And you, Capernaum, {will you be exalted to heaven?}[fn] You will {descend}[fn] to Hades.

16“{The one hearing you hears me, and the one rejecting you rejects me; but the one rejecting me rejects the one who sent me}.”[fn]

17And the {seventy-two}[fn] returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name.” 18And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19Behold, {I have given}[fn] you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will [by no means][fn] harm you.

20“However, do not rejoice in this, that the {spirits}[fn] are subject to you, but [[rather]][fn] rejoice that your names are written in the heavens.”

21At that very hour, {he}[fn] rejoiced [in][fn] the [Holy][fn] Spirit and said, “I thank you,[fn] Father, Lord of heaven [and earth],[fn] because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and revealed them to infants; yes, Father, {for this was well-pleasing in your sight}.[fn]

22[[And turning to the disciples, he said,]][fn] “All things have been handed over to me by {my}[fn] Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

23And turning to the disciples [privately],[fn] he said [[to them]],[fn] “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see [[and hear what you hear]].[fn] 24[For][fn] I say to you that many prophets [[and righteous men]][fn] [and kings][fn] desired to see what you see, and did not see, and to hear what you hear, and they did not hear.”

25[And behold,][fn] A certain lawyer stood up, testing him, saying, “[Teacher,][fn] What shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26And he said to him, “{What}[fn] is written in the law? How do you read it?”

27And he answered, “You shall love the Lord [your][fn] God with all your heart; [and][fn] with all your soul, and with all your strength [, and with all your mind];[fn] and your neighbor as yourself.”[fn]

28And {he}[fn] said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”

29But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30[But][fn] Jesus, taking this up, said [[to him]],[fn] “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, who both stripped him and inflicted wounds on him, then they went away, leaving him half dead [[as it happens]].[fn] 31Now [by coincidence][fn] a certain priest was going down that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32[Likewise, a Levite also, {[arriving][fn] [at the place],[fn] [came and][fn] saw [[him]],[fn] but}[fn] passed by on the other side.][fn] 33But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was, and seeing [him],[fn] he had compassion. 34And he went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine, and he set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35And on the next day, [[when he departed,]][fn] having taken out two denarii, he gave them to the innkeeper and said [[to him]],[fn] ‘Take care of him; and whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay [you][fn] when I return.’ 36[[Therefore,]][fn] {Which}[fn] [[of these three,]][fn] do you think, {proved to be}[fn] a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37He said, “The one who showed mercy on him.” [But][fn] Jesus said [to him],[fn] “Go and do likewise.”

38And [[it happened that,]][fn] as {they were}[fn] traveling, he entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed him [[into her house]].[fn] 39And there was a sister called Mary, [who][fn] also sat at {the Lord's feet}[fn] and listened to {his}[fn] word. 40But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she came up and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, tell her then to help me.”

41But {the Lord}[fn] answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are [anxious[fn] and][fn] troubled [about many things];[fn] 42[but one thing is necessary;][fn] [for][fn] Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
