Plague 1: Water to blood

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

Literal Version

7:14 Plague 1: Water to blood

14Then Yahweh told Mosheh, “Far’oh is very stubborn and he’s refused to let the people go. 15So go to Far’oh. Listen, every morning he goes down to the river, so station yourself to meet him on the bank. Take the staff with you that turned into a snake, 16and tell him, ‘Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, previously sent me to you to say, “Let my people go so they can serve me in the wilderness.” But listen, until now you haven’t done it 17so Yahweh says, “Now you will know that I am Yahweh because of this: See, I’m about to use my staff to strike the water in the Nile and it will turn to blood[ref] 18and the fish in the river will die and the river will stink. Then your people will gag to drink the water from the river.” ’

19“Tell Aharon to take his staff and stretch out his hand over the waters of Egypt: over their streams, their canals, and their pools, and over every reservoir of their water, and the water will become blood. Then there’ll be blood in the entire country—even in wooden or stone containers of water.”

20So And Mosheh and Aharon did exactly what Yahweh had commanded: Aharon raised the staff and struck the river, while Far’oh and his servants watched, and the entire river turned to blood. 21Then the fish in the river died and the river stank, so the Egyptians couldn’t drink water from the river, and the blood was all over Egypt. 22But the Egyptian sorcerers did the same with their magic, and so Far’oh stayed stubborn and wouldn’t listen to them, just as Yahweh had said earlier. 23The Far’oh turned around and went back to his house, and he put all of that out of his mind. 24Meanwhile, all the Egyptians dug holes around the river to get water to drink, because river water was undrinkable.

14and_he/it_said YHWH to Mosheh [is]_heavy the_heart of_Farˊoh he_has_refused to_let_go the_people.
15Go to Farˊoh in/on/at/with_morning there [he_is]_going_out the_water_to and_wait to_meet_him on the_bank the_Nile and_the_staff which it_was_changed into_snake you_will_take in/on/at/with_hand_your.
16And_say to_him/it YHWH the_god the_ˊIⱱrī/(Hebrews) sent_me to_you to_say let_go DOM people_my and_worship_me in/on/at/with_wilderness and_see/lo/see not you_have_listened until thus.
17Thus he_says YHWH in/on/at/with_this you_will_know if/because_that I [am]_YHWH here I [am]_about_to_strike in/on/at/with_staff which in/on/at/with_hand_my (on) the_waters which in/on/at/with_Nile and_changed to_blood.
18And_the_fish which in/on/at/with_Nile it_will_die and_stink the_river and_unable Miʦrayim/(Egypt) to_drink water from the_Nile.
19and_he/it_said YHWH to Mosheh say to ʼAhₐron take staff_your and_stretch_out hand_your over the_waters of_Miʦrayim over rivers_their over canals_their and_over ponds_their and_over every (the)_collecting_place water_their and_become blood and_it_was blood in_all the_land of_Miʦrayim and_in/on/at/with_vessels_of_wood and_in/on/at/with_vessels_of_stone.
20And_did so Mosheh and_ʼAhₐron just_as he_had_commanded YHWH and_raised in/on/at/with_staff and_struck DOM the_waters which in/on/at/with_Nile in_sight of_Farˊoh and_in_sight officials_his and_turned all the_waters which in/on/at/with_Nile to_blood.
21And_the_fish which in/on/at/with_Nile it_died and_stank the_river and_not they_were_able Miʦrayim to_drink water from the_Nile and_he/it_was the_blood in_all the_land of_Miʦrayim.
22And_did thus the_soothsayer-priests of_Miʦrayim in/on/at/with_secret_arts_their and_hardened the_heart of_Farˊoh and_not he_listened to_them just_as he_had_said YHWH.
23And_turned Farˊoh and_went into house_his and_not he_set his/its_heart also for_this.
24And_dug all Miʦrayim around the_Nile water to_drink if/because not they_were_able to_drink from_water the_river.
