This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

20:35 A prophet condemns Ahab

35One day, a prophet in training with a group told his companion, “By Yahweh’s command, please wound me.” But the man refused to slash him, 36so the first prophet told him, “Because you didn’t obey Yahweh’s command, listen, as soon as you leave here you’ll be attacked by a lion.” Then after he left, a lion found him and killed him.[ref]

37Then he found another prophet and said, “Strike me, please,” and the man struck him with a swordwounding him. 38Then the wounded prophet disguised himself with a covering over his eyes and went and stood on the road to wait for the king. 39When the king came past, the prophet called out to him, saying, “Your servant went out in the middle of the battle, and suddenly, a man came across with a captive and told me, ‘Guard this man. If he goes missing, your life will be forfeit in place of his, or else you’ll be fined three thousand pieces of silver.’ 40But while I was busy with other things, the man escaped.”

Well, by your own testimony, you deserve your punishment,” King Ahav responded.

41Then he quickly uncovered his eyes and the king recognised that he was one of the prophets, 42and the prophet told him, “Yahweh says that because you released a man who should have been executed, then your life will be required in place of his, and your people in place of his people.”

43Then the king went on to his house in Shomron, but he was angry and depressed inside.
