Mark 16

16 {And [when the Sabbath had passed,][fn] Mary Magdalene and Mary of James and Salome bought spices so that they might come and anoint him}.[fn] 2 {[And very][fn] Early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen}.[fn] 3 And they were saying to themselves, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?” 4 {And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away; for it was very large.}[fn]

5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. 6 But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are seeking Jesus [the Nazarene],[fn] who was crucified; he has been raised; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that {he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you}.”[fn]

8 And {going out [[quickly]],[fn]}[fn] they fled from the tomb, for trembling and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.[fn]

The Shorter Ending of Mark

[[But they quickly reported all the instructions to those around Peter. And after these things, Jesus himself sent out from the east to the west, through them, the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation. Amen.]][fn]

The Longer Ending of Mark

9 [[And having risen early on the first day of the week, he appeared [first][fn] to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. 10 She went and reported to those who had been with him, as they were mourning [and weeping].[fn] 11 And when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe.

12 After this, he appeared in a different form to two of them as they were walking into the countryside. 13 And they went and reported it to the rest, but they did not believe them either.

14 [[But]][fn] Later, he appeared to the eleven as they were reclining at the table, and he rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart because they had not believed those who had seen him after he had been raised [[from the dead]].[fn]

15 {And he said to them,}[fn] “Go into [all][fn] the world and proclaim the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

17 “And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues, 18 [and with their hands][fn] they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

19 [So][fn] Then the Lord [[Jesus]],[fn] after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.

20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the accompanying signs. [[Amen]][fn]]][fn]
