Mark 5

5And they came [to the other side][fn] [[and]][fn] [of the sea,][fn] into the country of the {Gerasenes}.[fn]

2And when he had come out of the boat, [immediately][fn] a man with an unclean spirit met him from the tombs, 3who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind [him][fn] [anymore],[fn] not even with a chain, 4because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart [by him][fn] and the shackles broken in pieces; and no one was strong enough to [subdue][fn] him. 5And constantly, night and day, he was in the tombs and in the mountains, crying out and cutting himself with stones.

6And when he saw Jesus [from][fn] afar, he ran and bowed down before him; 7and crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have I to do with you, Jesus, [Son][fn] of the {Most High}[fn] God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” 8{For}[fn] {he}[fn] had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!”

9And he asked him, “What is your name?” And {he said to}[fn] him, [“My name is Legion; for we are many.”][fn] 10And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country.

11Now there was there near the mountain a [large][fn] herd of pigs feeding; 12and they begged him, [[all the demons,]][fn] saying, “Send us into the pigs, that we may enter into them.” 13And [[immediately]][fn] {he}[fn] allowed them [[into the pigs]].[fn] And the [unclean][fn] spirits, having come out, entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the cliff into the sea, about two thousand, [[and they were]][fn] drowned in the sea.

14And the herdsmen[fn] fled and reported it in the city and in the fields; and they {came}[fn] to see [what had happened].[fn]

15And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man [sitting, clothed and][fn] in his right mind, [the one who had the legion,][fn] and they were afraid. 16And those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man and about the pigs. 17And they [began to][fn] beg him [[that]][fn] to depart from their region.

18And as he was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged him that he might be with him. 19{And he}[fn] did not allow him, but said to him, “Go to your house, to your own people, and report to them what the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you.”

20And he went away and began to proclaim in [[all]][fn] the Decapolis what Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.

21And when Jesus had crossed over [in the boat][fn] again [to the other side],[fn] a large crowd [was][fn] gathered around him, and he was by the sea.

22And [[behold]][fn] one of the synagogue leaders, [named Jairus,][fn] comes [and seeing him,][fn] falls at his feet 23and pleads with him [greatly][fn] saying [that],[fn] “My daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be saved and live.” 24And he went with him.

And a large crowd followed him and they pressed upon him.

25And [[there was]][fn] a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26and had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was not helped at all, but rather having become worse, 27having heard about Jesus, she [came up][fn] behind him in the crowd and touched his garment; 28{for she said}[fn] [that][fn] “If I touch [even][fn] his garments, I will be saved.”

29And immediately the source of her blood was dried up. [And][fn] [[that]][fn] She knew in her body that she was healed [from the affliction].[fn]

30And [immediately][fn] Jesus, perceiving [in himself][fn] that power had gone out [[from him]],[fn] turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?”

31{And}[fn] {his}[fn] disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ” 32And he looked around [to see who had done this].[fn]

33But the woman, fearing and trembling [[because of what she had done in secret]],[fn] [knowing what had happened to her],[fn] came and fell down before him and told him [[before all]][fn] the whole truth.

34But {he}[fn] said to her, “Daughter, your faith has saved you; go in peace [and be][fn] healthy from your affliction.”

35While he was [still][fn] speaking, they came from the synagogue leader's house, saying [[to him]],[fn] “Your daughter has died; why do you still trouble the teacher?”

36But Jesus, [[immediately]][fn] {overhearing}[fn] {the}[fn] word [being spoken],[fn] says to the synagogue leader, “Do not be afraid, only believe.”

37And he did not allow anyone to follow [with][fn] him except [[only]][fn] Peter, James, and John, the brother of {James}.[fn]

38And they came to the house of the synagogue leader, and he sees a commotion and [many][fn] weeping and wailing. 39And entering, he says to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child has not died but is sleeping.” 40And they laughed at him [[knowing that she died]].[fn] But he, having put {everyone}[fn] outside, takes the child's father and mother and those with him, and goes in where the child was [[lying]].[fn]

41And [taking the child's hand,][fn] he says to her, “[[Rabbi]][fn] Talitha [koum],”[fn] which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you [, rise].”[fn]

42And immediately the girl got up and began to walk around; for she was [[about]][fn] twelve years old. And they were [[all]][fn] [immediately][fn] amazed with great amazement. 43And he [strictly][fn] ordered them that no one should know about this, and he said to give her something to eat.
