Mark 11

11And when they approach Jerusalem, [[and]][fn] to Bethphage [[and Bethany]],[fn] at the Mount of Olives, he sends two of his disciples 2and says to them, “Go into the village [opposite you],[fn] and immediately upon entering [into it][fn], you will find a colt tied, on which no one of men has ever sat; untie it and bring it. 3And if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you {doing this}?’[fn] say [[that]],[fn] ‘The Lord needs it, and will send it back here [again][fn] immediately.’ ”

4And they went and found a colt tied near a door outside on the street, and they untied it. 5And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6And they said [to them][fn] just as Jesus had {said}[fn] [[to them]][fn] and they let them go.

7And they {brought}[fn] the colt to Jesus and threw {their}[fn] garments on it, and he sat on it.

8And many spread {their}[fn] garments on the road [, and others cut branches from the {fields}[fn]].[fn] 9And those who went before and those who followed cried out [[saying]],[fn] “[Hosanna!][fn] Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! 10[[And]][fn] Blessed is the [coming][fn] kingdom [[in the name of the Lord]][fn] of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!”

11And {he}[fn] entered Jerusalem and went into the temple; and when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve [[disciples]].[fn]

12And on the next day, as {they}[fn] went out from Bethany [, he became hungry].[fn] 13And seeing a [[single]][fn] fig tree from a distance having leaves, he came [[to it]][fn] to see if perhaps he would find something on it; and when he came to it, he found nothing but [[only]][fn] leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14And responding, {he}[fn] said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples were listening.

15And they come [[again]][fn] to Jerusalem. And entering into the temple, {he}[fn] began to drive out [[from there]][fn] those who were selling [and those who were buying][fn] in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers [[he poured out]][fn] and the seats of those who were selling the doves, 16and he would not allow anyone to carry a vessel through the temple.

17And he was teaching and saying [to them],[fn] “Is it [not][fn] written [that],[fn] ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.”

18And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and were seeking how they might destroy him; for they were afraid [of him],[fn] for all the crowd was astonished at his teaching.

19And when evening came, they went out of the city.

20And passing by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21And Peter, remembering, said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.”

22[And][fn] Jesus, answering, said to them, “Have faith [in God].[fn] 23[[For]][fn] Truly I say to you [[that]],[fn] whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says is happening, it will be done for him [[whatever he says]].[fn]

24“Therefore I say to you, whatever you {pray and ask for},[fn] believe that you {have received it},[fn] and it will be yours. 25And whenever you stand praying, forgive if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father [in heaven][fn] may also forgive [you][fn] your trespasses. 26[[But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.]]”[fn]

27And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders [[of the people]][fn] came to him. 28And they said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things? [{Or}[fn] who gave you this authority to do them?]”[fn]

29And Jesus [[answering,]][fn] said to them, “I will ask you one question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30The baptism of John, was it from heaven or from men? Answer me.” 31And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “[[What shall we say?]][fn] If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say [[to us]],[fn] ‘Why [then][fn] did you not believe him?’ 32But shall we say, ‘From men?’ ” – they feared the {crowd},[fn] for they all held that John was [truly][fn] a prophet. 33So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” [And][fn] [[Answering,]][fn] Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
