Mark 3

3 And he entered [again][fn] into the synagogue; and there was a man there who had a withered hand. 2 And they watched him closely, whether he would heal [him][fn] on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him. 3 And he says to the man with the withered hand, “Rise [[and stand]][fn] into the {middle}[fn].”

4 [[And]][fn] He says to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or [[rather]][fn] {to do evil},[fn] to save a life or to kill?” But they were silent.

5 [And][fn] looking around at them with anger, [being grieved][fn] at the hardness of their hearts, he says to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was [[immediately]][fn] restored [[as whole as the other]].[fn]

6 {And}[fn] the Pharisees went out and [immediately][fn] {took}[fn] counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

7 And Jesus, with his disciples withdrew to the sea, and a great {multitude}[fn] from Galilee [followed][fn] [[him]],[fn] and from Judea 8 and from Jerusalem [and from Idumea][fn] and [[those]][fn] beyond the Jordan [and][fn] [[those]][fn] around Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude {hearing what he was doing came to him}.[fn]

9 And he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not press upon him [[greatly]];[fn] 10 for he healed many, so that they would fall upon him in order to touch him, as many as had afflictions.

11 {And}[fn] the unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him and cried out, saying [[that]],[fn] “You are [[the Christ,]][fn] the Son of God.” 12 And [many][fn] he rebuked them not to make him known. [[For they knew that he himself was the Christ.]][fn]

13 And he went up to the mountain and called to himself those whom he wanted, and they went to him.

14 And he appointed twelve [whom he also named apostles][fn] so that they would be with him and so that he would send them to preach [[the gospel]][fn] 15 and to have authority [[to heal sicknesses and]][fn] to cast out demons. [[And while traveling around, they were proclaiming the good news.]][fn] 16 [And he appointed the twelve,][fn] And he gave the name Peter to Simon, 17 [and James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, and he gave them the name[s] Boanerges, which means Sons of Thunder;][fn] 18 and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, [and Thaddaeus,][fn] and Simon the {Cananaean},[fn] 19 and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

20 And he comes into a house; and again the crowd gathers, so that they could not even eat bread. 21 And when those with him [[the scribes and the rest,]][fn] heard, they went out to seize him; for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

22 [And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem,][fn] They said, “He has Beelzebul, and by the ruler of the demons he casts out the demons.”

23 And calling them to him, {he}[fn] spoke to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 [And][fn] If a house is divided against itself, {that house}[fn] will not be able to stand. 26 And if {Satan}[fn] has risen up against himself and is divided, {he}[fn] cannot stand, but has an end. 27 [But][fn] No one can enter the strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man; and then he will plunder his house.

28 “Truly I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and blasphemies [, whatever they may blaspheme];[fn] 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit[fn] does not have forgiveness [forever],[fn] but is guilty of {an eternal sin}.”[fn] 30 Because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”

31 {And}[fn] his mother and his brothers come, and standing outside, they sent to him, {calling}[fn] him. 32 And a crowd was sitting around him, and they say to him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers [and your sisters][fn] are [[standing]][fn] outside seeking you.”

33 And answering them, he says, “Who is my mother {and}[fn] [my][fn] brothers?” 34 [And][fn] Looking around at those sitting around him [in a circle],[fn] [[the disciples,]][fn] he says, “Behold, my mother and my brothers. 35 [For][fn] Whoever does the will of God, this one is my brother and [[my]][fn] sister and [[my]] mother.”
