16.7 Et Petro. BEDA. Petrus vocatur ex nomine, ne desperet ex negatione. Nisi enim, etc., usque ad ut qui futurus erat pastor Ecclesiæ in sua culpa disceret quomodo aliis misereri deberet. Et Petro. HIER. Qui se indignum discipulatu indicat, cum ter magistrum negat. Sed peccata præterita non nocent, quando non placent. Præcedit vos. Bene de Redemptore nostro dicitur: de Galilæa namque transmigratio facta interpretatur. Jam enim a passione ad resurrectionem, a morte ad vitam, a pœna ad gloriam transmigraverat. Et bene post resurrectionem in Galilæa a discipulis videtur, quia resurrectionis ejus gloriam post læti videbimus, si modo a vitiis ad virtutum celsitudinem transmigremus. Qui ergo in sepulcro nuntiatur, in transmigratione ostenditur; et qui in mortificatione carnis agnoscitur, in transmigratione mentis videtur. BEDA. Nota quod Marcus dicit: Præcedit vos in Galilæam, etc. Nec tamen ibi visum retulit. Matthæus autem, etc., usque ad sicut in illa æternitate cognoscetur, quo et nos perducet propter formam servi, ut liberi contemplemur formam Domini.

16.7 And Petro. BEDA. Petrus is_called from nomine, not desperet from negatione. Nisi because, etc., until to as who futurus was pastor Ecclesiæ in his_own culpa disceret how aliis misereri deberet. And bene after resurrectionem in Galilæa from discipulis videtur, because resurrectionis his gloriam after læti videbimus, when/but_if modo from vitiis to virtutum celsitudinem transmigremus. Who therefore in sepulcro nuntiatur, in transmigratione ostenditur; and who in mortificatione carnis agnoscitur, in transmigratione mentis videtur. BEDA. Nota that Marcus he_says: Præcedit you in Galilæam, etc. Nec tamen there sight retulit. Matthæus however, etc., until to like in that æternitate cognoscetur, quo and we perducet propter formam servi, as liberi contemplemur formam Master.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

16:7 The angel’s message for the disciples repeated Jesus’ prediction and promise (14:28). The disciples’ desertion and denial would be forgiven and their apostolic commission restored.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-contrast

ἀλλὰ

but

Here, the word But introduces a command that contrasts with what the young man said in the previous verse about seeing where Jesus’ body lay. Now, in contrast, the angel commands the women to leave the tomb. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a word or phrase that introduces this kind of contrast, or you could leave But untranslated. Alternate translation: [Next,] or [But do not stay here. Instead,]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ τῷ Πέτρῳ

˱to˲_the disciples ˱of˲_him and ¬the ˱to˲_Peter

The phrase and to Peter is not making a distinction between Peter and the disciples by indicating that Peter is not part of the group of Jesus’ disciples. Rather, the phrase and Peter is being used to emphasize that of all of the disciples of Jesus, these women should take special care to tell Peter the information that follows this phrase. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make that idea more explicit. Alternate translation: [to Peter and to the rest of his disciples] or [to his disciples, and particularly to Peter]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / quotesinquotes

Πέτρῳ, ὅτι προάγει ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν; ἐκεῖ αὐτὸν ὄψεσθε, καθὼς εἶπεν ὑμῖν

˱to˲_Peter ¬that ˱he˲_/is/_going_before you_all into ¬the Galilee there him ˱you_all˲_/will_be/_seeing as ˱he˲_said ˱to˲_you_all

If it would be clearer in your language, you could translate this so that there is not a quotation within a quotation. Alternate translation: [to Peter that Jesus is going before them to Galilee and that they will see him there, just as he said to them]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / go

προάγει

˱he˲_/is/_going_before

In a context such as this, your language might say “coming” instead of going. Alternate translation: [He is coming before]
