Psalmes 108

P S A L. CVII.

1 The Psalmist exhorteth the redeemed, in praising God, to obserue his manifold prouidence 4 Ouer trauailers, 10 ouer captiues, 17 ouer sicke men, 23 ouer Sea men, 33 and in diuers varieties of life.

CVIII[ref]O giue thankes vnto the LORD, for hee is good: for his mercie endureth for euer. 2Let the redeemed of the LORD say so: whome he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemie: 3[fn]And gathered them out of the lands, from the East and from the West: from the North and from the South. 4They wandred in the wildernes, in a solitary way: they found no citie to dwell in. 5Hungry and thirstie: their soule fainted in them. 6Then they cryed vnto the LORD in their trouble: and he deliuered them out of their distresses. 7And hee led them forth by the right way: that they might goe to a citie of habitation. 8Oh that men would praise the LORD, for his goodnesse: and for his wonderfull workes to the children of men. 9For he satisfieth the longing soule: and filleth the hungry soule with goodnesse. 10Such as sit in darknesse and in the shadowe of death: being bound in affliction and yron: 11Because they rebelled against the words of God: and contemned the counsell of the most high: 12Therefore hee brought downe their heart with labour: they fel downe, and there was none to helpe. 13Then they cryed vnto the LORD in their trouble: and he saued them out of their distresses. 14Hee brought them out of darkenesse, and the shadowe of death: and brake their bands insunder. 15Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodnesse: and for his wonderfull workes to the children of men. 16For he hath broken the gates of brasse: and cut the barres of yron in sunder. 17Fooles, because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. 18[ref]Their soule abhorreth all manner of meate: and they drawe neere vnto the gates of death. 19Then they crie vnto the LORD in their trouble: he saueth them out of their distresses. 20Hee sent his word, and healed them: and deliuered them from their destructions. 21Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodnesse: and for his wonderfull workes, to the children of men. 22[fn]And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thankesgiuing: and declare his workes with reioycing. 23They that goe downe to the sea in shippes: that doe businesse in great waters: 24These see the workes of the LORD: and his wonders in the deepe. 25[fn]For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy winde: which lifteth vp the waues thereof. 26They mount vp to the heauen: they goe downe againe to the depthes: their soule is melted because of trouble. 27[fn]They reele to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man; and are at their wits end. 28Then they cry vnto the LORD in their trouble: and hee bringeth them out of their distresses. 29He maketh the storme a calme: so that the waues thereof are still. 30Then are they glad, because they be quiet: so he bringeth them vnto their desired hauen. 31Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodnesse; and for his wonderfull workes to the children of men: 32Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the Elders. 33Hee turneth riuers into a wildernesse: and the water springs into dry ground: 34[fn]A fruitfull land into barrennesse; for the wickednesse of them that dwell therein. 35[ref]He turneth the wildernesse into a standing water: and dry ground into water-springs. 36And there he maketh the hungry to dwell; that they may prepare a citie for habitation, 37And sowe the fields, and plant vineyards; which may yeeld fruits of increase. 38He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly: and suffreth not their cattell to decrease. 39Againe, they are minished and brought lowe through oppression, affliction and sorrow. 40[ref][fn]Hee powreth contempt vpon princes: and causeth them to wander in the wildernesse, where there is no way. 41[ref][fn]Yet setteth he the poore on high from affliction: and maketh him families like a flocke. 42[ref]The righteous shall see it, and reioyce; and all iniquitie shall stop her mouth. 43Who so is wise, and will obserue those things; euen they shall vnderstand the louing kindenesse of the LORD.

P S A L. CVIII.

1 Dauid incourageth himselfe to praise God. 5 Hee prayeth for Gods assistance according to his promise. 11 His confidence in Gods helpe.

¶ A song or Psalme of Dauid.

CVIII¶ O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing & giue praise, euen with my glory. 2Awake psaltery and harpe: I my selfe will awake early. 3I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I wil sing praises vnto thee among the nations. 4[fn]For thy mercy is great aboue the heauens: and thy trueth reacheth vnto the clouds. 5[ref]Be thou exalted, O God, aboue the heauens: and thy glory aboue all the earth: 6That thy beloued may bee deliuered: saue with thy right hand, and answere me. 7God hath spoken in his holinesse, I wil reioyce, I will diuide Shechem: and mete out the valley of Succoth. 8Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine, Ephraim also is the strength of mine head: Iudah is my Lawgiuer. 9Moab is my wash pot, ouer Edom wil I cast out my shooe: ouer Philistia will I triumph. 10Who wil bring me into the strong citie? who will leade me into Edom? 11Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast vs off? and wilt not thou, O God, goe foorth with our hostes? 12Giue vs helpe from trouble: for vaine is the helpe of man. 13Through God wee shall doe valiantly: for hee it is that shall tread downe our enemies.
