Psalmes 107

P S A L. CVI.

1 The Psalmist exhorteth to praise God. 4 He prayeth for pardon of sinne, as God did with the fathers. 7 The storie of the peoples rebellion, and Gods mercie. 47 Hee concludeth with prayer, and praise.

CVII[fn][ref]Praise ye the LORD. O giue thankes vnto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercie endureth for euer. 2[ref]Who can vtter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew foorth all his praise? 3Blessed are they that keepe iudgement: and he that doeth righteousnesse at all times. 4Remember me, O LORD, with the fauour that thou bearest vnto thy people: O visite me with thy saluation: 5That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may reioyce in the gladnesse of thy nation: that I may glory with thine inheritance. 6[ref]Wee haue sinned with our fathers: we haue committed iniquitie, we haue done wickedly. 7[ref]Our fathers vnderstood not thy wonders in Egypt, they remembred not the multitude of thy mercies: but prouoked him at the sea, euen at the Red-sea. 8Neuerthelesse hee saued them for his Names sake: that hee might make his mighty power to be knowen. 9He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried vp: so hee led them through the depthes, as through the wildernes. 10And he saued them from the hand of him that hated them: and redeemed them from the hand of the enemie. 11[ref]And the waters couered their enemies: there was not one of them left. 12[ref]Then beleeued they his words: they sang his praise. 13[ref][fn]They soone forgate his works: they waited not for his counsell: 14[ref][fn]But lusted exceedingly in the wildernes: & tempted God in the desert. 15[ref]And he gaue them their request: but sent leannesse into their soule. 16[ref]They enuied Moses also in the campe: and Aaron the Saint of the LORD. 17[ref]The earth opened and swallowed vp Dathan: and couered the company of Abiram. 18[ref]And a fire was kindled in their company: the flame burnt vp the wicked. 19[ref]They made a calfe in Horeb: and worshipped the molten image. 20Thus they changed their glory, into the similitude of an oxe that eateth grasse. 21They forgate God their Sauiour: which had done great things in Egypt: 22Wonderous workes in the lande of Ham: and terrible things by the red Sea. 23[ref]Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach: to turne away his wrath, lest hee should destroy them. 24[fn]Yea, they despised the pleasant land: they beleeued not his word: 25[ref]But murmured in their tents: and hearkened not vnto the voyce of the LORD. 26Therefore he lifted vp his hande against them: to ouerthrow them in the wildernesse: 27[fn]To ouerthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands. 28[ref]They ioyned themselues also vnto Baal-Peor: and ate the sacrifices of the dead. 29Thus they prouoked him to anger with their inuentions: and the plague brake in vpon them. 30[ref]Then stood vp Phinehas, and executed iudgement: and so the plague was stayed. 31And that was counted vnto him for righteousnesse: vnto all generations for euermore. 32[ref]They angred him also at the waters of strife: so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: 33Because they prouoked his spirit: so that hee spake vnaduisedly with his lippes. 34[ref]They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them: 35[ref]But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their workes. 36And they serued their idoles: which were a snare vnto them. 37Yea they sacrificed their sonnes, and their daughters vnto deuils, 38And shed innocent blood, euen the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whome they sacrificed vnto the idoles of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. 39Thus were they defiled with their owne works: and went a whoring with their owne inuentions. 40Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people: insomuch that he abhorred his owne inheritance. 41And he gaue them into the hand of the heathen: and they that hated them, ruled ouer them. 42Their enemies also oppressed them: and they were brought into subiection vnder their hand. 43[ref][fn]Many times did he deliuer them: but they prouoked him with their counsell, and were brought low for their iniquitie. 44Neuertheles he regarded their affliction: when he heard their crie. 45[ref]And hee remembred for them his couenant: and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. 46He made them also to be pitied, of all those that caried them captiues. 47Saue vs, O LORD our God, and gather vs from among the heathen to giue thankes vnto thy holy Name: and to triumph in thy praise. 48Blessed bee the LORD God of Israel from euerlasting to euerlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD.

P S A L. CVII.

1 The Psalmist exhorteth the redeemed, in praising God, to obserue his manifold prouidence 4 Ouer trauailers, 10 ouer captiues, 17 ouer sicke men, 23 ouer Sea men, 33 and in diuers varieties of life.

CVII[ref]O giue thankes vnto the LORD, for hee is good: for his mercie endureth for euer. 2Let the redeemed of the LORD say so: whome he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemie: 3[fn]And gathered them out of the lands, from the East and from the West: from the North and from the South. 4They wandred in the wildernes, in a solitary way: they found no citie to dwell in. 5Hungry and thirstie: their soule fainted in them. 6Then they cryed vnto the LORD in their trouble: and he deliuered them out of their distresses. 7And hee led them forth by the right way: that they might goe to a citie of habitation. 8Oh that men would praise the LORD, for his goodnesse: and for his wonderfull workes to the children of men. 9For he satisfieth the longing soule: and filleth the hungry soule with goodnesse. 10Such as sit in darknesse and in the shadowe of death: being bound in affliction and yron: 11Because they rebelled against the words of God: and contemned the counsell of the most high: 12Therefore hee brought downe their heart with labour: they fel downe, and there was none to helpe. 13Then they cryed vnto the LORD in their trouble: and he saued them out of their distresses. 14Hee brought them out of darkenesse, and the shadowe of death: and brake their bands insunder. 15Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodnesse: and for his wonderfull workes to the children of men. 16For he hath broken the gates of brasse: and cut the barres of yron in sunder. 17Fooles, because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. 18[ref]Their soule abhorreth all manner of meate: and they drawe neere vnto the gates of death. 19Then they crie vnto the LORD in their trouble: he saueth them out of their distresses. 20Hee sent his word, and healed them: and deliuered them from their destructions. 21Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodnesse: and for his wonderfull workes, to the children of men. 22[fn]And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thankesgiuing: and declare his workes with reioycing. 23They that goe downe to the sea in shippes: that doe businesse in great waters: 24These see the workes of the LORD: and his wonders in the deepe. 25[fn]For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy winde: which lifteth vp the waues thereof. 26They mount vp to the heauen: they goe downe againe to the depthes: their soule is melted because of trouble. 27[fn]They reele to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man; and are at their wits end. 28Then they cry vnto the LORD in their trouble: and hee bringeth them out of their distresses. 29He maketh the storme a calme: so that the waues thereof are still. 30Then are they glad, because they be quiet: so he bringeth them vnto their desired hauen. 31Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodnesse; and for his wonderfull workes to the children of men: 32Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the Elders. 33Hee turneth riuers into a wildernesse: and the water springs into dry ground: 34[fn]A fruitfull land into barrennesse; for the wickednesse of them that dwell therein. 35[ref]He turneth the wildernesse into a standing water: and dry ground into water-springs. 36And there he maketh the hungry to dwell; that they may prepare a citie for habitation, 37And sowe the fields, and plant vineyards; which may yeeld fruits of increase. 38He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly: and suffreth not their cattell to decrease. 39Againe, they are minished and brought lowe through oppression, affliction and sorrow. 40[ref][fn]Hee powreth contempt vpon princes: and causeth them to wander in the wildernesse, where there is no way. 41[ref][fn]Yet setteth he the poore on high from affliction: and maketh him families like a flocke. 42[ref]The righteous shall see it, and reioyce; and all iniquitie shall stop her mouth. 43Who so is wise, and will obserue those things; euen they shall vnderstand the louing kindenesse of the LORD.
