Psalmes 106

P S A L. CV.

1 An exhortation to praise God, and to seeke out his workes. 7 The story of Gods prouidence ouer Abraham, 16 Ouer Ioseph, 23 Ouer Iacob in Egypt, 26 Ouer Moses deliuering the Israelites, 37 Ouer the Israelites brought out of Egypt, fed in the wildernesse, and planted in Canaan.

CVI[ref]O giue thankes vnto the LORD, call vpon his name: make knowen his deeds among the people. 2Sing vnto him; sing Psalmes vnto him: talke yee of all his wondrous workes. 3Glory yee in his holy name: let the heart of them reioyce, that seeke the LORD. 4Seeke the LORD, and his strength: seeke his face euermore. 5Remember his maruellous workes, that hee hath done: his wonders, and the iudgements of his mouth, 6O yee seede of Abraham his seruant: yee children of Iacob his chosen. 7He is the LORD our God: his iudgements are in all the earth. 8He hath remembred his couenant for euer: the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. 9[ref]Which couenant he made with Abraham, and his oath vnto Isaac: 10And confirmed the same vnto Iacob for a law: and to Israel for an euerlasting couenant: 11[ref][fn]Saying, Unto thee will I giue the land of Canaan: the lot of your inheritance. 12When they were but a few men in number: yea very few, & strangers in it. 13When they went from one nation to another: from one kingdome to another people. 14He suffred no man to doe them wrong: yea he reproued kings for their sakes: 15Saying, Touch not mine anointed; and doe my Prophets no harme. 16Moreouer hee called for a famine vpon the land: he brake the whole staffe of bread. 17[ref]Hee sent a man before them: euen Ioseph, who was sold for a seruant. 18[ref][fn]Whose feete they hurt with fetters: he was layd in iron. 19Untill the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. 20[ref]The king sent and loosed him: euen the ruler of the people, and let him goe free. 21[ref][fn]Hee made him lord of his house: and ruler of all his substance: 22To binde his princes at his pleasure: and teach his Senatours wisedome. 23[ref]Israel also came into Egypt: and Iacob soiourned in the land of Ham. 24And hee increased his people greatly: and made them stronger then their enemies. 25[ref]He turned their heart to hate his people: to deale subtilly with his seruants. 26[ref]Hee sent Moses his seruant: and Aaron whom he had chosen. 27[ref][fn]They shewed his signes among them: and wonders in the land of Ham. 28[ref]Hee sent darknesse, and made it darke: and they rebelled not against his word. 29[ref]Hee turned their waters into blood: and slew their fish. 30[ref]The land brought foorth frogs in abundance: in the chambers of their kings. 31[ref]He spake, and there came diuers sorts of flies: and lice in all their coasts. 32[ref][fn]Hee gaue them haile for raine: and flaming fire in their laud. 33Hee smote their Uines also, and their figge trees: and brake the trees of their coastes. 34[ref]He spake, and the locusts came: and catterpillers, and that without number, 35And did eate vp all the herbes in their land: and deuoured the fruite of their ground. 36[ref]Hee smote also all the first borne in their land: the chiefe of all their strength. 37[ref]Hee brought them foorth also with siluer and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. 38[ref]Egypt was glad when they departed: for the feare of them fell vpon them. 39[ref]He spread a cloud for a couering: and fire to giue light in the night. 40[ref]The people asked, and he brought quailes: and satisfied them with the bread of heauen. 41[ref]He opened the rocke, and the waters gushed out: they ranne in the dry places like a riuer. 42For he remembred his holy promise: and Abraham his seruant. 43[fn]And he brought forth his people with ioy: and his chosen with gladnesse: 44[ref]And gaue them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people: 45That they might obserue his statutes, and keepe his Lawes, Praise ye the LORD.

P S A L. CVI.

1 The Psalmist exhorteth to praise God. 4 He prayeth for pardon of sinne, as God did with the fathers. 7 The storie of the peoples rebellion, and Gods mercie. 47 Hee concludeth with prayer, and praise.

CVI[fn][ref]Praise ye the LORD. O giue thankes vnto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercie endureth for euer. 2[ref]Who can vtter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew foorth all his praise? 3Blessed are they that keepe iudgement: and he that doeth righteousnesse at all times. 4Remember me, O LORD, with the fauour that thou bearest vnto thy people: O visite me with thy saluation: 5That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may reioyce in the gladnesse of thy nation: that I may glory with thine inheritance. 6[ref]Wee haue sinned with our fathers: we haue committed iniquitie, we haue done wickedly. 7[ref]Our fathers vnderstood not thy wonders in Egypt, they remembred not the multitude of thy mercies: but prouoked him at the sea, euen at the Red-sea. 8Neuerthelesse hee saued them for his Names sake: that hee might make his mighty power to be knowen. 9He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried vp: so hee led them through the depthes, as through the wildernes. 10And he saued them from the hand of him that hated them: and redeemed them from the hand of the enemie. 11[ref]And the waters couered their enemies: there was not one of them left. 12[ref]Then beleeued they his words: they sang his praise. 13[ref][fn]They soone forgate his works: they waited not for his counsell: 14[ref][fn]But lusted exceedingly in the wildernes: & tempted God in the desert. 15[ref]And he gaue them their request: but sent leannesse into their soule. 16[ref]They enuied Moses also in the campe: and Aaron the Saint of the LORD. 17[ref]The earth opened and swallowed vp Dathan: and couered the company of Abiram. 18[ref]And a fire was kindled in their company: the flame burnt vp the wicked. 19[ref]They made a calfe in Horeb: and worshipped the molten image. 20Thus they changed their glory, into the similitude of an oxe that eateth grasse. 21They forgate God their Sauiour: which had done great things in Egypt: 22Wonderous workes in the lande of Ham: and terrible things by the red Sea. 23[ref]Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach: to turne away his wrath, lest hee should destroy them. 24[fn]Yea, they despised the pleasant land: they beleeued not his word: 25[ref]But murmured in their tents: and hearkened not vnto the voyce of the LORD. 26Therefore he lifted vp his hande against them: to ouerthrow them in the wildernesse: 27[fn]To ouerthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands. 28[ref]They ioyned themselues also vnto Baal-Peor: and ate the sacrifices of the dead. 29Thus they prouoked him to anger with their inuentions: and the plague brake in vpon them. 30[ref]Then stood vp Phinehas, and executed iudgement: and so the plague was stayed. 31And that was counted vnto him for righteousnesse: vnto all generations for euermore. 32[ref]They angred him also at the waters of strife: so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: 33Because they prouoked his spirit: so that hee spake vnaduisedly with his lippes. 34[ref]They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them: 35[ref]But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their workes. 36And they serued their idoles: which were a snare vnto them. 37Yea they sacrificed their sonnes, and their daughters vnto deuils, 38And shed innocent blood, euen the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whome they sacrificed vnto the idoles of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. 39Thus were they defiled with their owne works: and went a whoring with their owne inuentions. 40Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people: insomuch that he abhorred his owne inheritance. 41And he gaue them into the hand of the heathen: and they that hated them, ruled ouer them. 42Their enemies also oppressed them: and they were brought into subiection vnder their hand. 43[ref][fn]Many times did he deliuer them: but they prouoked him with their counsell, and were brought low for their iniquitie. 44Neuertheles he regarded their affliction: when he heard their crie. 45[ref]And hee remembred for them his couenant: and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. 46He made them also to be pitied, of all those that caried them captiues. 47Saue vs, O LORD our God, and gather vs from among the heathen to giue thankes vnto thy holy Name: and to triumph in thy praise. 48Blessed bee the LORD God of Israel from euerlasting to euerlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD.
