1:1 Adam’s descendants

(Gen. 5:1-32; 10:1-32; 11:10-26)

1Adam, Shet (Seth), Enosh, 2Kenan, Mahalalel, Yared (Jared), 3Hanok (Enoch), Metushelah (Methuselah), Lamek, 4Noah, Shem, Ham, and Yafet (Japeth).

5Yafet’s sons were Gomer, Magog, Maday, Yavan, Tuval, Meshek, and Tiras. 6Gomer’s sons were Ashkenaz, Rifat, and Togarmah. 7Yavan’s sons were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.

8Ham’s sons were Kush, Mitsrayim, Put, and Kanaan. 9Kush’s sons were Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raamah, and Savteka. Raamah’s sons were Sheva and Dedan. 10Then Kush fathered Nimrod and he became a mighty warrior. 11Mitsrayim was the ancestor of the Lud, the Anam, the Lehab, the Naftuh, 12the Patrus, the Kasluh, and the Kaftor people groups. (The Philistines descended from the Kasluh people group.) 13Kanaan’s first son was Tsidon, and then he was also the ancestor of the Hittites, 14the Yevusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, 15the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, 16the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamatites.

17Shem’s sons were Eylam, Ashur, Arpakshad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons were: Uts, Hul, Geter, and Meshek. 18Arpakshad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber. 19Eber had two sons: Peleg (which sounds like the Hebrew word for ‘divided’, because in his lifetime, the earth was divided)[ref] and Yoktan. 20Yoktan was the ancestor of: Almodad, Shelef, Hatsarmavet, Yerah, 21Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 22Eybal, Abimael, Sheva, 23Ofir, Havilah, and Yovav. All those were the descendants of Yoktan.

24These were the descendants of Shem (in order from him to Abraham): Arpakshad, Shelah, 25Eber, Peleg, Reu, 26Serug, Nahor, Terah, 27and Abram (whose name God later changed to Abraham).
